      DEP Shutting down Movie Maker

Nevermind: I fixed the issue. I had to disable a certain plugin. If anyone else ever gets this problem, simply go to Tools --> Options --> Compatibility, and find the Xvid Mpeg video thing, and uncheck it.

      Having a small problem here:

Everytime I try to Import an .AVI File, DEP starts and shuts down Movie Maker. The odd thing is, I can import some older .avi files, but these new ones that I've downloaded over the past... 4 or 5 months I think, aren't opening up.

In my "Problem Reports and Solutions" Page, it gives these details:
      Problem signature
      Problem Event Name: BEX
      Application Name: MOVIEMK.exe
      Application Version: 6.0.6000.16386

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. I haven't had this problem before, and everything I've googled hasn't helped out. I tried shutting off DEP for Movie Maker, but the computer won't allow me to do that.

The whole reason I even want to Import the file, is so that I can clip some parts of it out.

If anyone can help me solve this, or, recommend me a free program that will allow me to edit video (even if it just allows me to take a video, and cut clips out of it), then I'd appreciate it.

What's DEP? When I google it I get department of environmental protection

Quicktime is good for basic editing, but I'm not sure if that's available without the Pro upgrade.

Its short for Data Execution Prevention, its a feature designed in windows to prevent programs from accessing certain areas of Memory Paths I think, to prevent damage and such from happening to your computer. I've never had any problems with the files accessing memory, and from what I've read about it, everyone else says its next to useless and just a big annoyance.
