      Help with my room temperature

Hey guys, I have a lot of electronics in my room, and they output a lot of heat, and It's making my room's temperature rise. I'm currently looking for ways to cool it down since spring and summer are coming up, and I don't want my room to have an unbearable room temperature. The only thing I have to cool down my room Is a Fan and the Air conditioner, and that helps a little bit, but not enough. Another thing is that one of my rooms windows is right in front of the sun, and I wonder if that causes any access heat. Does anyone have any suggestions, I really need some help before things get worse.

Your AC isn't enough? What kind of electronics do you have? None of them can be turned off?

You can always put a shade up or plant a tree outside that window.

The only things there that produce a real lot of heat is your 360 and your laptop. I have more than that. I have a 360 and an TV, each run too hot to touch Buy a surge protector and shut each off while you're not using them. It saves power and heat.

You could also move things around, find the thinnest wall or a draft or something and put the hot stuff there.

get rid of the DVD player, your 360 is that and VCRs are obsolete, there's no movie you desperately need to watch on video that you can't go to the living room and watch it there. Seriously, if your room gets too hot that the AC and a fan isn't enough to cool the place down it's time to rethink your room/setup/priorities.

Actually the 360 does horrible progressive scanning and dvds looks like shit, you might want to keep that DVD player, just unplug it.

Eh, I mean unless he's got a 720p or higher he's not gonna notice on an SDTV.

Wow dude, this is like... intense.

Your window facing the sun is a huge contributor, or at least will be in the warmer months. Get a really heavy curtain and put that over your window to keep the rays completely out.

I hope I have contributed to making you (even more of) a hermit.

If your looking to cool down your room overall whilst still keeping these electronics intact, i suggest that you use fans to blow air onto the devices, especially the 360, if you can cool the heat source you will help keep your room cool. I suggest maybe clearing your room if it is not very spacious so that the air has more room to circulate. Maybe move some of the electronics out or at least limit when you have them on.

      Got windows?

You could open them and let some fresh air in.

Oh, you got an SDTV or an HDTV? If it's SD then you can throw out that DVD player than, 360 will handle that just fine.

Uh... conservation of energy? Cooling the devices down just dissipates the heat, the overall temperature of the room will be the same

Why don't you just open that window that you mentioned?

Think about it logically instead of jumping to conclusions all of a sudden.

If he wants to keep his electronics functioning but wants his room cool, by using a fan which produces a tiny amount of heat to cool down the red hot devices, you will cancel most of them out and it will overall cool down the room. Fans don't produce too much heat at all if they are on a cool setting, and there are many efficient fans you can buy.

By cooling down and/or eliminating the heat you will lessen the overall temperature in the room.

It probably controls part of the rest of the house, so it would be fine for his room, but unbearably cold for the rest of the house that it controls.

Open the window, as it's been said. Lets fresh air in, cools down, makes it way better!

Get a dehumidifier. If you're in an area where it's humid like me, then it cools the temperature a lot!

Open your room door more often if you close it. The AC will help a lot more if you do that. It lets the colder air form outside the room in.

Opening his window will be a problem in the summer. It'll just let in all the hot air.

Just put a dark or thick drape or even a bed sheet over the window. Yes the suns light does make heat and your closed window is keeping it bottled in your room. Ever heard of the green house effect?

Also its a plus or a must have if you have a big screen TV and don't want a window glare shining back at you.

Replace your window with a one-way mirror so that a large chunk of the sunlight is reflected away.

Ok, so that would cost you thousands of dollars.

I would think a mini-fridge produces quite a bit more heat than a gaming console (though admittedly, I've never owned an xbox360 or ps3). My PS2 doesn't produce much heat. My Projector sure does, though.

Hey maybe you can leave your mini fridge door open "Marge, can the oven be set to cold?"

It will soon be summer. One can't sleep outside unless they want to for some weird reason or if they are in a third world country.

It is a good suggestion, however.

Well, not sleep, but sounds like he could do with y'know, going outside for a little bit.

The greenhouse effect was one question that pondered me, but I'll probably get a curtain or something, and it will probably be a thick one.
