Is it one of those nice ones where it's basically a USB drive? (I never understood why anyone would want to use some third party software just to copy files from one drive to another... and the software is usually barely functional)
It might be that your drive is actually messed up. Try a generic USB key and see if it does the right thing.

also possible that the drive letter has been taken over by another (local) drive

its an 'alba', i think it is just a basic mp3 which only plays music, its probably broken though, i dont think theres anywhere to fit a key into it though for the USB thing your talking about.
