      Good CS Movie?

I'm teaching robotics to young kids this summer and I'm wondering what a good movie was for a day off? They're 5th grade so Terminator wouldn't really be appropriate I was thinking either Pirates of Silicon Valley or Tron, both are good CS movies, but I was wondering if anyone knew a good one that had more robots in it?

iRobot with Will Smith was pretty enjoyable according to my cousin who is in the 4th grade now.. he watched it last year with me.

It wasnt bad or anything; tacky of course in some points but kind of held true to the whole robots gone bad theme. Had some decent effects and wasn't quite as "badass" as terminator lol.

To be honest dont really know of any great movies that stuck out to me with that whole scenario going on though.. so trying to narrow that down to a group of movies that would enjoyable to a different age group just makes things harder sorry.

      Transformers is win though, gogo!

What's a CS movie? Google only gives me what I think it means - Counter Strike.

      it's old (1983)
but it's light-hearted, and suitable for kids

A young computer whizz kid accidentally connects into a top secret super-computer which has complete control over the U.S. nuclear arsenal. It challenges him to a game between America and Russia, and he innocently starts the countdown to World War 3. Can he convince the computer he wanted to play a game and not the real thing?

Counter-Strike was the first thing that came to my mind...so I thought that you were looking for something similar to Counter-Strike...

But I know what you mean and I have this one anime movie on the tip of my tounge but I can't remember what it's called...

      It's long out of print
I shouldn't think you'd find it on the shelves of any shop

got a 1.5Gb XviD of it

I may, should the feeling take me, copy it to /var/ftp/ for no reason

let me know if you suspect the feeling to be possessing me

What about A.I.? Should be pretty watchable at that age.

Minority Report is good too, with some very plausible future tech. Might be a little intense for smaller kids, though.

I enjoyed that movie. There's one scene which might be questionable (nothing happens, but the context is there), but it's an interesting "progression" of robotics.

Oh, what was that one with Robin Williams?... Bicentennial Man. I enjoyed that one as well.

That was a good story that was almost completely ruined by trying to make it appeal to comedy fans. Williams was ok in the role, but it would have been much better served by someone who could refrain from the occasional goofiness.

The ads for the film showed only the light-hearted silly parts, of which there were very few in the actual film. It's no wonder it bombed in the box office, since they had no idea who the target audience should be.

I agree, now that you mentioned it. I'm thinking, though, that a lot of 4th and 5th graders probably haven't heard of it, though, as it came out in '99 and wasn't a huge box-office hit. A lack of preconceived notions can be a great thing!

Good movie, ruined for me by the horrificness that it Matthew Broderick. I just can't stand him for some reason. It is on TV a lot, though.

Beat me to it. Also the sequels to Short Circuit.

Beat me to it again. I loved Bicentennial Man. Perhaps THX-1138? Might be a bit deep for kids that age, I dunno. I suppose Blade Runner is out of the question as well...
