      Storage

So I'm selling my PC, and getting a laptop. I have a lot of pictures and videos stored on this PC, and am wondering what's the easiest and most reliable way of storing them so I can transfer them all to my laptop. (Or at least transfer most of them)

I also want everything deleted from my PC before I sell it, so no one can basically access info after I do sell it. Documents, Pictures, Internet History, blah blah. What's the most secure way if doing this?

Also, bear with me, I'm really a tech noob. :p

      Thanks in advance.

your best bet is probably an external hard disk

copy all your stuff onto it, so you can transfer it to your new laptop
plus afterwards, you can use it as a backup in case you drop your laptop

That's probably the best way but considering how much I'm paying for this laptop.

Hey reinstall the system on your old laptop before you sell it if you want all your stuff gone. At least, that's what I've done multiple times - and not because I wanted to.. but the "stuff gone" part was a pleasant side-effect.

To securely erase the hard drive, people say that the free Darik's Boot and Nuke is good.

An external hard drive is definitely your best bet. You can get a fairly large one for $80 at Costco. They're incredibly useful for backups, too, so you won't be paying $80 just to transfer your stuff.

What kind of laptop are you getting?
