      Foreign TLD's

      yeah, I know foreign doesn't really mean anything on the net
      but anyhow

      I should know this, but I'm not altogether sure...
      Will I have any issues with latency if I use a foreign top level domain?

      I'm thinking of registering a domain outside my own country
      purely as it'll make quite a neat play on words

      At the moment, it'll just point to my home IP,
      but in the future, it may move my operation to a data centre

      Does anyone know if I'll run into speed or routing problems, if I do this?
      or does the TLD not matter at all

      I don't think it will, but if anyone has experience with this, I'd be grateful

      It shouldn't matter at all. A domain name is just a key for obtaining the actual I.P. address. It's where the host server sits that counts.

      I actually traced a few UK sites that have foreign (to their physical location) domains
      last.fm
      five.tv
      etc.

      just to see if at any point I got routed outside the UK
      which I didn't, so great

      Anyway, off I go
