      Help! Stupid Predicament...

I am in a very bad situation, and it was all caused by my stupidity. I'm going to cut to the chase and say that I have several viruses on my computer. More than several. Actually, I have about 2000 some.

Now, I know in this sort of situation I would just want to reinstall Windows...

But that option cannot happen. It is impossible. Don't ask why. My stupidity again.

I cannot enter Windows normally. Whenever I turn on the computer it comes to my log-in screen. I enter my password, and it starts to load my personal settings. It doesn't make a startup noise. Everything is replaced with my wallpaper and nothing else. No taskbar. No start button. No icons. Just my wallpaper.

I have poked around and found that I can run the ctrl-alt-delete program. (I forget what its called) But I don't know how that is helpful. Maybe you do?

I am typing this up right now in Safe Mode with Networking. Yeah, Safe Mode works.

I have tried System Restore, and it hasn't helped.

If anyone has any helpful ideas or are in the same situation, please help me out!!!

okaaay... update. I've destroyed all the viruses. yippee, right? yeah, sure. when I login to Windows, my background is still there and nothing else. so I opened up task manager, and clicked new task. i typed in explorer. i then sat there for three minutes. and then a window popped up telling me that i did not have proper authorization to run that program.

so pretty much, even with those pesky viruses destroyed my computers in a jumble of crap.

but, its the only one I have and school is just three days away, and I am determined to get this problem fixed. again, i cannot reinstall windows for reasons only i know.

Install Ubuntu or run off of an Ubuntu Live CD until you have the possibility to use Windows again. It seems to me that you're just wasting your time trying to fix that piece of junk, especially considering your lack of proficiency in computer matters. Either reinstall or forget about it.

OMG! I fixed the whole thing!!! I had installed AVG anti-virus software to try and destroy those pesky viruses a couple days ago, and that's when the problems started. so I realized, "that program is protecting me from viruses" so after i had destroyed those viruses, that program was still running thinking it was keeping me safe by not letting me logon. but in windows task manager i was able to end the Avg process which let me start a new task, explorer. once on explorer, i uninstalled AVG, my viruses gone, and restarted the computer. and here i am, able to type things up like this on my own account and not safe mode... ahhh, the warmth and luxury that is exuberating from me is almost like a wall of happiness...

thank you for your comment, Serkat.

      i can't help it

It's OK. McAfee has this Remote Virus Removal Service that I used when I'd done the same thing to my computer. But you had better have them remove the viruses immediately before they destroy your computer.

Service is $80.00 but well worth it in such a jam as yours. (Repairs could definitely cost more than that.)

Oh and when you're done, get a good firewall.

You sure you downloaded AVG from a reliable source (that is, their site)? It shouldn't have caused that. Anyway, install Spybot - Search & Destroy along with Avira Free, and use those two tools to clear out the loads of spyware and virii respectively.
