I'm running Windows XP and I know all about PIO being a slow pain in the ass and having to uninstall the driver to get my laptop running DMA again so that I can do things like play DVDs.
The incessant reversion to PIO when a DVD slips up a few times is very irritating. Is there any way to just... block it from doing that? One of my DVDs has a screwed up scene. I'm perfectly fine with skipping 5-10 min of the movie to get around it (this is usually how I deal with such issues), except that in this case it insists on crashing, going to PIO mode, and then I have to uninstall/restart just to play DVDs, let alone try to skip the scene again. Is there any way to prevent the application of PIO mode when it reaches that threshold number of errors?
I dunno. Solutions, advice, anything?
