      wireless router

The dam thing keeps messing up.

I'm just sitting here playing the xbox, or on the internet, and what happens is, first xbox live disconnects, then shortly after that, some websites stop working, then more websites stop working until there are no websites that work at all.
But, it would still say I have full strength connection, and it says "internet access".

I can fix it by resetting the router, but it happens very frequently, and it seems to be getting more and more frequent.

Anyone know what this problem is? And how to fix it?

Can you tell use a little about your network structure? Like, how many switches, hubs, computers, your connection speed and so on.

I fixed the my problem but loaning my top of the line router to my landlords. My internet hasn't gone down yet because of the router again. Get a high-end router like this one. http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/

Hmmm, maybe I should just get a new router. It was just strange how it suddenly started doing it one day, so I thought there would maybe be more to it.

EDIT: hmm... ok, it hasn't done it in a while now... strange. I am starting to think it is maybe something to do with my xbox. In fact, it started once i started playing MW2, so I am thinking it is more specifically to do with that game.

Do you reckon if I were to disconnect my laptop, and play the game, would that help? I think I will try that.

As far as I can tell, the less trafic the router have to relay, the less likely it is to be overloaded or encounter some other error from which it can't recover.

MW2's multiplayer works in a way that puts a big load on your internet connection. Try disabling UPnP in your router options and see if that helps you out.

Cool Marvo, I'll try that when I can be bothered, but for now, turning my laptop wireless off works fine.

That's a better solution anyway, seeing as turning UPnP off can be a bit annoying at times when using your PC. Generally it's not really a problem, though having it on is nice.

Get yourself a packet sniffer and see what's fucking up. The network stack shouldn't get overloaded unless there are bad packets, or coming in in a really strange order.

      How do you do that?

I've googled it, and all I find is a bunch of crap. But I hear it helps a lot.

It's just that I am now getting desperate, now it disconnects after 5 mins on the xbox even when nothing else is connected.

Tell me your router's manufacturer and the model number, and whether you have full access to it, and I'll find a manual for you

Never mind, it doesn't matter any more, it is working better now. I can use it with my laptop off again.
