      Slow DSL connection

I am having a problem with my DSL that I was hoping maybe someone here could help me with. I got DSL at my father's house about 2 months ago, and it is been almost as slow is dial-up. I have no idea what is wrong with it. I have tried everything I can think of, we changed the router position, replaced all of the cords connected in any way to the router, switched filters, and checked the settings in the gateway. There has to be something keeping it slow. It takes 10 mins just to load the character list on world of warcraft, and watching youtube is hell. It has been like this since we got it, and customer service is no help (surprise?). It is very frustrating.

Have you checked for viruses, spyware, etc? Defragged your hard drive?

I'm just saying that it might not be the internet that's the problem.

Your computer is sending personal information would be my guess. Run a spybot destroyer.

No, It is perfectly fast when I am at my mother's house (on the same laptop). It is slow on every computer in the house over here.

Is it encrypted? Your neighbours might be piggybacking off of it.

Are you sure that the DSL connection you have is actually any bigger than 256Kb/sec?

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, what is the connection supposed to be?

no, it has a WEP pass-code, and I am quite sure that we ordered the FastAccess DSL Xtreme, which according to the website is supposed to run "up to 3mbps". Should be the same deal as what I have at my mother's house. Perhaps I should call and ask for a manager and just make sure or something.

WEP is not secure at all. Anybody with a bit of knowledge can break through that kind of encryption. You need to use WPA2.

Also, you say "up to 3mbps", that sounds like internet running over 3G technology. Are you getting your internet from a cable in the ground, or a wireless signal receiver?
