Proof that you should be careful of what you download

I'm in a computer security class at my uni. Check out this video that my professor provided:http://www.securitytube.net/Apple-Ma...era-video.aspx

This video shows how easy it would be to fall for a site that wants you to download an infected file. The video shows an apple being used. So yes, apple's are not immune to viruses like some people think. Who knows, maybe virus programmers don't make as many viruses for apple and/or apple just has better security than windows machines, but there are viruses for apple computers too. As you can see from the video, who ever made this site took their time in making it look very professional and legitimate. The use of the background music was also very smart, because i believe that can cause you to drop your guard a little. You are more distracted by the music, so that you don't think as much before you click. I admit that i probably would have fallen for the trap. But this proves that it is also good to have an up-to-date anti-virus program running. So when your good judgment fails, your anti-virus program can act as a safety net. I still can't believe how legit the site looks! I don't know if the site is still up, but i don't intend to look to find out, for obvious reasons.

I don't think there are any viruses for Macs, only trojans. You actually have to download the trojan and install it yourself so with a measure of common sense they're easily avoidable.

I did a little research on google:
      http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000737.htm

Apple quitely admits macs get viruses:
      http://www.switched.com/2009/09/01/a...s-get-viruses/

I believe that mac's have much better security when it comes to repelling viruses, but there are at least a handful of them out there. No offense to any mac users; i kind of got off on a tangent about it in my first post. My main point is to be careful of what you download, no matter how legit it may appear.

Somebody managed to control a Mac completely through a security hole in the Safari browser. It means nothing really though, all pieces of software have security holes and it should be expected.

Mac's are apparently the best if you dont want any virus's. I dont know if this is correct.

This reminds me of a video that read "Hacking an apple in 60 seconds" or something along those lines.
The video was of a guy with a with a mac and an hp laptop. he physically made the laptop join his network, and then used a terrible program to remote access it, after he physically got the ip address from the mac.
So in 60 seconds, you can "hack" you OWN mac.
If you use your brain you probably won't fall for a trojan.
