      GIMP Tutorial?

I'm using GIMP and I'm wondering if anyone knows any good tutorials out there for beginners. I wanted to make Sigs, Banners, and Logos. Would appreciate it if someone could help me with this. I don't know how to do this stuff yet. So I was wondering if anyone could give me some tutorial links.

I don't know about GIMP, but if your just beginning you should go head on with the greatest program ever "Photoshop CS4" there's a jizz-load of tutorials all over youtube and the internet.

Google is your friend to find tutorials about any program the majority of the time as well.

      Goodluck.

I know about Photoshop. Only reason I choose GIMP because GIMP is free and I can't afford a $1,000.00 dollar program. I wanted anyone who has GIMP experiences to help me out and see if they had tutorials they started with.

GIMP is actually fairly easy to use and is in some ways much like Photoshop. You can often get a rough idea of how to achieve different effects simply by checking out Photoshop tutorials, though it does require some basic knowledge in order to be able to apply what you read to GIMP.

there are better sites out there. But usually I use PS tuts with GIMP they are very similar, just get to know basic GIMP and some basic PS and you will see the similarities.

Indeed there are better tut's out there.

I posted that because it's a great starting point for beginners which is what he asked for, is it not?

Yes PS are very similar, they use the same basic concepts of digital art. So someone well versed in GIMP can adopt and profit from PS tutorials, but he just started using GIMP, so i suggest that you, Skarr, start small and work your way up to the harder things.

The best thing to do right now is get comfortable with GIMP, learn every button, function, and filter it has. Just play with it for a while like a sword, get the feel for it, then once it becomes a natural thing to open it and use whatever resource it has move on to using the PS tuts.

      but it's your choice ultimately

      good luck either way

Yeah maybe GIMP will tie me over until I can afford Adobe PhotoShop. The program is expensive. And I've seen some pretty sweet Logos and Signatures created in GIMP too.

oh yeah, there are some pretty sweet things you can make in GIMP, you just need to learn how to combine effects, filters, and techniques to create them. It's only limited by your artistic ability.

For me, this is for me only, i recently bought PS and did not like it at all. This was because everything was just so complicated to use and it's a ram hog. Buttons have other buttons and layered effect within them, so without digging in you may not ever find the tools you're looking for. I find GIMP so much more better because it's powerful and easy to use (once you explore it for a day or so)
