What exactly is an RSS feed?

Extremely simplified answer: It's a feed. It's for web sites and things that are continually updated (often my multiple sources.) Blogs, forums all fit into this. If web pages aren't flagged as RSS, then the browser might decided to cache them and would should you a local version of a webpage over and over again instead of getting the latest data. RSS is insanely complex, but that's the jist of it.
