How do I know when I'm in SP?

Last night and also this morning I tried to do WILD for the first time, counting my breaths until I got to about 756. I figured I was doing something wrong so I gave up. I know I'm supposed to feel when I'm in SP, but what does it feel like? D: Help's appreciated even if I'm in the wrong forum...

When you're in sleep paralysis, you won't be able to move. It'll be almost dream-like in that it feels surreal. I've tried the counting thing many times and that has never worked for me. All it did was serve to stress me as every time I did it, I just wanted to fall asleep. I don't know if it's just me, but there also seems to be a misconception of SP. I've seen posts and threads where some people discuss SP as if it's just vibrations or just hallucinations. Sleep paralysis includes paralysis itself and that is the most obvious and telling sign that it has come.

Here's a technique that I use. I posted this in another thread, but it might help you out as well. It's the only one that's produced results in a consistent fashion on a day-to-day basis whenever I feel like WILDing:

When you're in sleep paralysis, it's sort of like a dream state. The hallucinations are malleable to an extent. A lot of times, nothing happens at all. Other times, too much happens and if you're not expecting it, it can be scary.

To get into sleep paralysis, relax and focus on nothing. I've done it a lot of times, and for me, I almost ALWAYS have had success by not even trying to WILD. Do a WBTB and let your mind drift COMPLETELY. The trick is to not truly lose consciousness. The line between WILDing and falling asleep normally for me is so thin I can barely tell the difference. The awareness I keep is just an inkling. Don't focus on anything. Your intention should be just like it is when you go to sleep normally.

After some time, you focus and "become aware" again. (PS. Don't focus on how much time has gone by. Just trust yourself to know when to focus again.) Become completely aware and look around you. Ask yourself if you feel different and maybe even try to move. If you can't, you were successful and are now in sleep paralysis. If you can move, keep trying even with the risk of falling asleep normally. As you practice you'll get better at it.

The best analogy I can describe my success with WILDing and specifically the sleep paralysis part of it is that it's like going fishing. You're fishing for the SP. Your awareness/focus/consciousness is the bait. You let it go almost entirely in a sea of unconsciousness as if you were going to sleep normally any other night. Your intention is to simply fall asleep. After some time, you reel your consciousness back in and see if you caught SP. Rinse and repeat.
I hope this helps you out

You'll F-ing know, bro. It's difficult to explain and apparently certain aspects of it differ from person to person. But your body will be heavy, numb, almost buzzing with numbness if that makes sense. There will be a certain point at which you forget where you are and it's almost like you're floating. You may see things, flashes of light, hear false noises. It's all your brain playing tricks on you while it falls asleep.

I usually get a jerk. Usually I know I'm in SP, when I feel a sudden jerk, it's usually up. Makes sense, because gravity is pulling you down and you feel that, then suddenly, you don't feel your body, so you stop feeling gravity.

To experience SP learn to astal project. Many people use SP to enter the astral planes. I had never had SP until i started learning to astral project. It can be frightening and it has happened to me. I have woken up in the morning not able to move but this only lasts a couple seconds. You can then wake your body up or leave your body to enter the astral planes and return when wish todo so. LOOK UP ASTRAL PROJECTION.

Don't worry. You won't be able to miss it. It is not required for a successful WILD. I wouldn't make it a goal. If you do experience it, it is a good road sign that you are on the right track, but many people never even experience it. Make the dream your goal, and don't worry about sleep paralysis.
