      Can't get to SP.

Hello everybody, I have decided to learn to WILD. In the past I was impatient and just wanted instant results, I have matured past that, and now understand that its a skill, and like any other, has to be learned.

BUT, I have a major problem. In my past attempts and in the more recent ones (35 or so total) I can't get into SP, I have been using Jeff777's method.

I lay down, start to relax, I start to reverse blink until I get more relaxed/sleepy. When I start to notice myself drifting off (Illogical thoughts, images) I start to try and maintain awareness, the way I've been trying is to count my exhales until 10 then restart to 1.

In the past I tried many different anchors, all ending in this: After a while of doing my anchor, I start to feel a numbness in my hands and feet, not a tingle, but just a numbness, it's like I have to try a little harder to move them than I usually would.
And that's all I feel... Nothing else ever happens. I usually give it about 25 minutes of my anchor then I give up.

Is there some major thing I'm doing wrong?

      -Thanks for any advice

Maybe you are entering SP but your sensations are relatively weak, my SP sensations are weak, I get a mild vibration upon entry and have started to notice that while I think I've not entered or have entirely exited SP I am in fact in SP. What other sensations are you experiencing at the time, numbness is a sign of movement towards SP obviously but inevitably to even get to SP you have to not realize bodily sensations, which is what confuses me as your post is a paradox. Once I hit SP I've already completely forgotten about the sensations of the rest of my body, however on brief occasions I have became aware of my body again and have realized I was completely paralyzed even though there was no hypnagogic or auditory signals that I was in SP.

The problem with weak sensations I've noticed is I begin to have a process where I constantly worry that I'm not hitting SP, its sounds like you may be doing a similar thing. Once you get to that stage of worry it may so happen that you could have been in SP right that moment but ruined it by assuming you weren't, exiting SP is almost instantaneous so you may not notice any of the stronger sensations bought on by SP after suddenly breaking out of it. Or I could be totally wrong and you're just not hitting it

The only thing that happens to me is a slight numbness in my hands and feet, that's it. I lay there for 25 or more minutes and that's all that happens.

Hmmm how do you feel when hitting the pillow, are you tired? Do you feel tired after laying there for 25 minutes?

When I lay down to do a WILD I am a good bit sleepy but defiantly not to sleepy. After the 25 or so minutes after I roll over the numbness goes away and I feel extremely relaxed and about the same sleepiness as when I lay down at the start.

I'm assuming this is with WBTB, try adjusting your times and the amount of time you're awake for. I often never hit SP after walking around for longer then 20 minutes when performing a WBTB

I'm usually awake for 5 minutes tops.

Yeah it seems to me as if you're trying to hard to hit SP, like Hospin said the goal is to fall asleep. Try and remove all focus from attaining SP and just concentrate on your mantra.

I agree. Don't aim for sp, when i wild, I let my mind be empty and just let myself fall asleep while using physical awareness. The aim is to fall asleep with a little bit of awareness on an anchor. I find that using my physical anchor has worked well for me as if i feel my body fade away and then i feel my dream body.
Moral of the story: aim to fall asleep with an anchor, don't aim for sp.
