WBTB Is seemingly having no effect.

I seem to be having a problem, so far due to laziness coupled by stubbornness I never really attempted WBTB or attempted it poorly (i.e waking up 3 hours or 8 hours after sleep). So far I've been attempting WILD without any WBTB which is dumb I know especially as a beginner.

Needless to say I would obviously fail, but I've learnt a lot about the experience considering WILD without WBTB is very prolonged so it gave me a lot of time to realize what mind set to be in and to narrow down my mantra.

Now I hit SP very very quick without WBTB and can stay in it for 2 minutes, sadly nothing comes of it likely because I'm not ready to enter REM which is understandable without any prior sleep.

That being said I would assume that with WBTB and being able to enter SP in a hitch that with WBTB, WILD would be a cakewalk. So far I've attempted it 4 times (not counting the 10 other times I performed it poorly) 5/5 1/2 hours into sleep, I nailed down that a 20-60 minute wake-up timeqon't work for me, I become alert far too easily, I limited myself with a 5 minute wake-up time for all 4 attempts. So I go through WBTB then perform my exact process I used without WBTB, but in this case I never even hit SP, and the weird thing is I can even sense that I'm not going to hit it, previously without WBTB I would feel myself sinking deeper and deeper but I can almost feel that literally nothing is happening I'm just not advancing at all. Its hard to explain, because on to of this once I've awoken even for say 5 minutes I have to strong urge to just get up even if I'm still very tired. In most cases I just roll over and go back to sleep.

I've considered having no wake-up time, or even trying DEILD but that has been extremely hard for me (mental conditioning works very poorly on me), and on top of that being so close to WILD without WBTB is so irritating I almost don't want to try any other method because I feel so close, its like I'm missing one piece of the puzzle to get me through this. The issue with no-wake up time is I just feel groggy and horrible, I need to brush my teeth and put some water on my face otherwise I just won't feel comfortable (that is after being aware of being awake).

So can you guys help me out .

Are you able to try WILDing during a morning/afternoon nap? It's basically an extended WBTB. Wake up a couple hours earlier than you normally would. Then just do whatever for 2-3 hours. Then take a nap and try to WILD. As long as you keep the nap within 4 hours from waking up, you'll still be at a point where you are able to enter long REM periods pretty much right away. After 4 hours...such as a nap in the evening...it becomes much harder to have an LD because your naps will be mostly non/shorter-REM later in the day.

Since you seem to be having difficulties finding the sweet spot, you might have some success if you try the morning nap, which is sort of like a plain WILD combined with a WBTB/WILD. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to nap...at least 45 min - 1.5 hr or longer.

I thought that might be a problem. Most people seem to have school or work at that time of day. I was able to use the method everyday when I was in college and had to get up at 7am and attend class from 8-11am. Then I'd come back to my dorm and sleep/LD for around 2 hours. Then get up and go back to class from 2-5pm. It was so perfect.
