      Confusion about WILDs

Hey so I've read some articles on Lucid Dreaming and the techniques, including WILDs.
But I'm still confused about one thing,
is it possible to get into bed, do some sleep induction or meditation techniques and then go straight into a WILD / fall asleep?
In the time span of 20 minutes or however long it takes to actually fall asleep?

I thought that we only dreamed in the REM sleep, which is like 90 minutes after falling asleep or something?
So how does a WILD work?

      Thanks in advance guys

I'm certainly no expert, only just joined although have read up on it a fair amount before. Your question is slightly confusing so i'm just going to run through a couple of things that hopefully answers it for you.

You shouldn't expect to fall asleep at night straight into a lucid dream, WILD as a technique requires that you wake later on in the night.. Referring to the tutorial "There are two times that you can successfully WILD: In the middle of the night, during a REM cycle, or during the day for a nap."

Also from the tutorial "the dreamer manages to enter a dream directly from the waking state without any lapse in consciousness. Most believe that this is possible because when the body is motionless for a long period of time, the brain is tricked into thinking that the dreamer has gone to sleep. When that happens the mind disconnects itself from the body in what's known as sleep paralysis. From there the brain enters REM and dreams start to form, allowing the dreamer to go into it directly."

Hopefully that answers your question... or maybe not seeing as I just regurgitated the tutorial which you said you already read, but hopefully it is pretty self explanatory.

This is a mistake a lot of newbies make. It is possible, but difficult to WILD right before bed especially if you have never had a WILD before. You should wake up in the middle of the night right before a REM period or in the middle of one. So usually you would wake up 5-7 hours after fall asleep and then attempt the WILD. WILDing should only take 5-30 minutes. Sometimes more, sometimes less. If you stick with it, it will get quicker and quicker.

We can dream in all stages of sleep, but in the REM stage dream tend to be longer, more vivid, and stable. If you wake up in the middle of the night to WILD you will go right into the REM stage and into the dream. I recommend you read my WILD Guide (link in my signature) for more info on WILDing.

      Good luck!
