If lie in bed until I'm really tired, would I be able to WILD successfully?

I go to bed at 9 and am not able to sleep till around 11 PM. Once 12 AM rolls by I'm still unable to achieve sleep paralysis. I fall asleep and at 4 AM I am woken up by my alarm. I should be able to slip right into sleep paralysis but am unable.

At 7:00 I wake up again and meditate. Here I am still incapable of achieving sleep paralysis. I am just too aware.

Would breathing deeply help speed up the process? every time I try deep-breathing, I fall asleep. Could it be because I pause between breaths? Is there a way to deep-breathe with out falling asleep?
