First WILD Attempt was a good one!

I didnt achieve a lucid dream first time, of course, but last night I made my first attempt at a Wake Induced Lucid Dream and managed to get well into the beginning of the transition.
I began to get hypnagogic sounds and imagery (A bright light and unusual swirls of colour, birds and someone far away calling me) and my body began to feel as if it wasnt in bed anymore, as if I was just somewhere.

Now, what got me, was my heartbeat was VERY fast, and as a first attempt at a lucid, it was all a bit much I guess too much too soon and it freaked me out a bit, but is a rapid heart rate normal?

Also, I attempted this when going to bed at a normal time, I know this is not a great time for a WILD, but could it still work? It took me 10 minutes of meditation to get to that stage, nothing had really formed, but it was beginning to fall into place.

      Thanks guys

      Hello there! Great name
The rapid heart rate may actually be also a part of HH. It can very well work, however, the reason why it is not recommended as the dream are 'short and unstable' as some WILD (pros) said. Keep at it, i'd very strongly advise you to try it in a Wake Back To Bed (WBTB) aswell. Your chances of completing a WILD at 4 or more hours of sleep is much more likely. Sounds like you're making a good progress, though

      Good luck

The main reason it doesn't work to WILD when you first go to sleep is that you don't have a REM cycle that early in the night. There is no dream there to enter. I bet you would be successful if you did this exact same thing after 4 or 5 hours of sleep.

Thanks for the replies guys Im definitely thinking of setting an alarm for 4 or so hours into my sleep tonight and hope for better luck. Why do they say its easier for a WILD if you go for a midday nap too? Surely you dont have an REM cycle then either?

And the increased heart rate may just be a hallucination? That may explain why it returned to normal so quickly
