I've generally not found binaural beats to do anything helpful, but that's just my experience. Binaural beats are basically just to get you relaxed, but there are other ways to relax. Lots of online beats are fakes and have no real effect whatsoever, so check your sources carefully! Either way, though, they're probably not hindering you unless you're wearing uncomfortable headphones.
I suggest reading this WILD tip; this guide has lots of additional links, and this guide is one of my favorites.
But guides only take you part of the way -- feeling out what works for you will account for most of what you learn and know. I've learned some important things, but a HUGE part of starting out with WILDs is to not be too aware of your surroundings. Like the links above say, you must fall asleep (crazy, right?) to have a WILD. That means you must be relaxed enough -- but wait! Don't focus on relaxing. Try to mimic what you do when falling asleep normally. With a little time, luck, and practice, you'll get into the perfect balance of consciousness. But don't try to analyze everything that's happening. If you're constantly wondering if this twitch or that weird sensation is SP or HI, you'll probably not get anywhere.
Focusing on the inside of your eyelids can lead to some funky things, but I've found that they don't really lead to anything and keep me too aware besides. Also, you don't have to lie on your back if this isn't your natural position. Most of my WILDs thus far have been on my side.
The "mini-dreams" are very common and can be a little frustrating to manipulate. This technique can help you put them to use. Basically what they mean is that your mind is relaxing and starting some processes. Your subconscious is sorting through memories and information from the day, and some of that is picked up by your conscious mind and made into a weird, short dream sequence. This is sometimes called an indication of HI, but even if it's not, it means you're relaxed. If you suddenly come out of one and realize you had been in a mini-dream, even though it may slip your memory, it's a good time to start imagining where you want to go (also known as a VILD), very lightly move your fingers (FILD), or engage an anchor.
And last but not least, it's only your third day trying. It took me 3 months and I'm completely unsuccessful on weekdays, so you might just need to try at the right time. Good luck!
