      Nap Sleep Cycle

      Hello DV!

Today I have taken an interest in napping only because I heard that when you nap your brain goes into REM sleep much quicker compared to a normal sleep cycle at night. I don't know why this happens, but I would like to try it out.

      My main questions are these:

      1. Do you know how long it take to get into REM for a short, afternoon nap?

      2. Why does your brain automatically go into REM that much quicker for naps?

      Thanks for your input!

I guess it takes same amount of time as it would after a long sleep. At the beginning of sleep, a 90 min sleep cycle starts with about 80 min of NREM and 10 min of REM.
After maybe 8 hrs, not really sure on details, but times are pretty much reversed and you get to REM pretty fast. And same for naps.

And I don't know the answer to your second question.

This is a morning nap schedule from S. LaBergers sleep study:

      1. Get up 90 min before your normal sleeping time
      2. Stay up for 90 min
      3. Last 10 min - do MILD
      4. Take a 90 min nap

Well, my first was a DEILD.
I woke up, kept still, closed my eyes and after 10 sec i was in a dream. (it's a really cool tech. )

The second and third were false awekenings where i just "knew" something was off, and (for me atleast) it's not really a reality check that makes you lucid, it's the idea behind it.
I have to admit i have done reality checks in real life, but i stopped. In all my lucids reality checking was a side effect, i already knew i was lucid and the RC was just to confirm. So i have found that awareness is very effective, because i simply KNOW i am dreaming because my brain remembers me thinking about dreams and lucidity and what to "look for" during the day.

So i didn't really prepare or anything.
For the DEILD, i simply remembered reading a tutorial on how to do it, and when i woke up, i just tried it out.
For DILDs, it was simply a spur of "what the f*** is this?".

      Hope it's informative. cheers.

I know what you mean about RCs! I always "know" that I am dreaming so I just have to do a RC to double check.

I have had some success with a DEILD too! IMO it is one of the coolest techniques because I kind've view it as an instant lucid dream if you do it right.

      Agreed, love DEILDs!

      Someone suggested to do this:
Each time you wake up and don't stay still, say to yourself: "Oh, I should have stayed still". Let's say you on your way to restroom and you get to the door, when you remember you wanted to DEILD, so that's when you say it. And hopefully each time you wake up, you say this to yourself little bit closer to bed. Until one day, you remember that when just waking up and you will DEILD.

BTW, if anybody wants to try the morning nap routine described above, feel free to adjust the time of waking up and how long you stay up.

I wake up anytime from 7-9am. Stay up from 1hr-3hrs. Then lay down to TV to get me sleepy. When ready, TV off, towel on eyes and WILD. It works.

Thats an interesting technique on how to train yourself to stay still! I will be sure to try it because that is the hardest part of DEILD for me.
