So I'll start by saying I am a lifelong lucid dreamers and have had thousands of lucid dreams but only a handful of WILDs. I can't really pinpoint why I had success only those few times at WILDs other than to say most seemed to occur when I woke and immediately started the WILD process. Maybe once or twice I was successful after being up for awhile. I think my biggest hurdle is I have chronic back pain and it's hard for me to relax and stay in one position for too long. When I wake up I am pretty relaxed but soon as I move around the pain starts. This makes WBTB much more difficult for me. The other hurdle is laying perfectly still. This doesn't seem to work well for me as I want to shift my angle periodically if I start getting pain in my back.

That being said, for those who have difficulty relaxing or deal with pain issues from sitting still too long does anyone have recommendations for a technique or have faced similar challenges? I find so many variations of the WILD technique and wonder how much I should be moving and letting my mind wander. I have seen techniques that say to shift around as much as needed until you settle in to a final position. I have tried doing this but I find myself waiting in this position forever or falling asleep (often after giving up). I have other questions, but I'll try to start there. If I could figure out how much or how little to move and how much I should be focusing on a sound in the background, etc. vs. letting my mind wander I think that would help a lot.

I think people that say WILD is easy are probably good at staying still for long periods of time have no problem relaxing. Even if I could get to the point where I was experiencing vibrations (as I normally do), I would know I was making progress. Lately it has been a dry spell.
