Nothing working at all? Can't fall asleep? Try this.

This technique doesn't supply you with a long fulfilling lucid dream, but it often works for me and even if you don't have any control over the dream you will often realize you are asleep.

      1. Optional: before going to bed look in the mirror for a few seconds (incase you come across a mirror in your sleep).

      2. Set your alarm to 3AM (or as suggested, four hours after you go to bed - 3AM just works for me)

      3. Go to sleep as normal.

      4. The alarm goes off. Sit up for a moment (go the the bathroom or have a drink if you want).

      5. Go back into bed and get comfy. Try not to move too much.

      6. Think of a setting. Imagine the sounds of whats around you. Imagine the feeling of what is under you. Picture what you can see.

      7. Lucidty (hopefully)

The reason why this works for me is because after waking up I am tired so falling asleep is much easier. Because I am thinking heavily about a particular area or setting it seems to slip into my dream. By doing this I can often accomplish lucidty - but not to a strong extent.
Hopefully if this works for you it will inspire you to keep trying until you get a fulfilling LD.

I think I need to start setting an alarm during a night to get WILDs too...
I've tried staying conscious right after a day when going to sleep - missed attempts.

Last Achieved Goals: fly [xx], summon an earth elemental [/], go on a Moon [x] have at least 2 LD in February [x]

This is called a Wake Back to Bed WILD and is posted all over the place on this forum.

A few things... What's the point of looking in the mirror? Why 3am? What if I go to bed at 1am? You should set your alarm for (I think) 4 hours after you go to sleep. 3am is not the magical time. But I like your idea of imagining yourself already in a place.

I find it I see myself in the mirror, its not so scary if I come across one in my LD. Its optional of course, but I think it will save a little freaking out.

What ever works best for you.
About the imagining thing... I find it helps because you'll naturally enter the dream without noticing, then suddenly realize you are asleep but you'll be sleeping deeply enough not to wake up in excitement. Thats how it works for me at least.

I belive it's 4 1/2 or 6 hours after you fall asleep to hit the beginning of an REM period.
