Going to try WILD tonight - WBTB Time?

I'm going to attempt WILD tonight, with a WBTB at around 2:30 - 3:00 going to bed at 10:00.

My main question is, how long should I stay awake for with the WBTB? Is it the sort of thing where you wake up only long enough to go to the loo / become properly awake, or do you stay up for longer?

Also, what do I do if it feels like I'm not going to fall asleep? Last time I tried WILDing I just progressively became very relaxed, but I didn't get hallucinations. Is this when I start a mantra or counting breaths?

Thanks for any help. I think it's probably unlikely I'll get a lucid tonight, but I want to try it anyway. Last time I fell asleep after feeling very relaxed and ended up recalling a good dream

----------DISCLAIMER------ I have not actually succeeded in WILDing myself as you can see from my signature and am relatively new to lucid dreaming but I have done research and this is what I have found out. Take all of this with a grain of salt.

If you followed most of the people's advice, I think it would be 30-60 minutes and I also think that the time spent WILDing counts as well. However, a lot of it is personal preference. Just think of it as a kind of guideline to start off on.

From what I understand or have been doing so far, you can (should?) count your breathing or do those kind of things from the start. I seem to be pretty much in the same situation as you in this though unfortunately.

I find it important to have a clear mind, so stay up until you feel your head is quite clear and not distracted. You should aslo feel sleepy, some will have to stay up for maybe 2 hours until they start feeling sleepy, other will have to fall asleep again instantly.

For me staying longer awake longer then 20 min make falling asleep pretty difficult.

I agree with Nihao, staying awake for more than about 20 minutes can make it really difficult to get back to sleep for me. But then it's also about personal preference. If you find you just fall asleep rather than manage to WILD, you probably need to spend a little more time awake before you try next time.

I started with half an hour and made it less by 5 minutes each day until I found a time that worked for me.
