Regarding SP, how it feels, and that "line"

So, lately I've been making it an effort at least a couple times a week to attempt an afternoon LD.

Almost every time, I'll be lying still, not moving, and swirling colors and small flashes of light will happen. At this point, everything is good, and eventually REALLY strong HI starts happening, most of the time it almost becomes a visible dream scene. At this point, for some reason the HI just fails and I don't enter a LD.

      This begs two questions.
One, if I'm experiencing HI this strong, does this mean I've hit SP? I've never encountered the traditional SP in my afternoon LD attempts.

Two, what am I doing wrong? It feels like there is this line I have to cross to fully enter the dream, and I just don't something right and I fail. Is it just because my REM cycle is failing? I usually wake up at 7:00 to 7:30ish, and my LD attempts are usually made around 1:30 to 2:15.

I'm pretty happy I can get to HI consistently, but if I could just go beyond it into a LD it would be great.

During Christmas Break, I hope to attempt an afternoon LD every day at different times to get a feel for what my options are. Unfortunately, I'm usually busy around 1:30 to 3:00 so finding another time that would work later in the day would be awesome.

      "I feel my heart glow
with enthusiasm which elevates me to heaven; for nothing contributes so much to tranquillise the mind as a steady purpose--a point
on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye."

For me SP is more of sensation rather than the HI. Everyone may be quite different in regards to his/her experiences with SP. When you reach SP several things are playing out concurrently. Strong HI being one of them, also audio within your dream world that is already underway is heighten. Strange undefined voices are a good sign. The body is heavy, if you're having problems moving then this is a major sign of SP.

I know a lot of people here will tell you to focus on the time intervals but I am a natural Lucid Dreamer. I've been doing this since I was a small child and never once does my LD's hit all at the same time. I can have an LD during my last cycle of REM and I can have a LD at the moment I initially fall asleep. SP is the same. SP may set in the moment I fall asleep, or while I'm in a dream or right before I awaken from my last REM. The latter being the one you want to avoid. Believe it or not REM cycles fluctuate so chances are not hitting the LD has nothing to do with REM time periods. There is an extremely thin line from the SP to the LD. I call SP the "mind game" SP plays a form of trickery. When you actually hit SP your subconscious is already making it's way to being the dominate thought process and you are loosing normal consciousness thats why it's a rough task to cross over because hitting LD from SP requires a lot of conscious thought. The thought process that you actually have control over. Subconscious thoughts control you they are not driven by what you determine.

If you have the sensation of not being able to move your body while lying there experiencing the HI then you have hit SP at that moment. How do you use this to your advantage to enter the LD requires thought consciously. The best and easiest way to hit an LD from SP is to "imagine". SP overlaps your dreamworld so seamlessly that it can become very misleading on rather or not you are actually dreaming. This is why I call it the mind game. During SP if you allow SP to run it's course without interruption then you can imagine yourself floating. Use your conscious thoughts to make your body appear as light as a feather. What's happening here is you are actually controlling your dream body. It is very important to maintain coherency as it is extremely easy to loose it as your subconscious mind takes the forefront. If your scenery has not changed for instance if you see that you are still in your room lying in your bed you may or may not be in a LD. This is where it gets difficult, Your subconscious mind records every single thing that happens to you in your life and keeps an unbelievably unlimited supply of stored memory. Your subconscious mind recorded your room to the the most finest detail and if you find yourself still in your room lying in your bed after SP you may very well be in a LD. It's easy to say "damn it didn't work" and it actually did work but once you've given up then your subconscious takes complete control and you;ve lost your chances of recognizing the Dream consciously. If you do a few Recalls, one of the best would be to look at the clock. The subconscious mind cannot relate to real time as we see time move forward in our waking life. You will find 100% of the time something inaccurate with a clock. If you see something is inaccurate then you are in the LD. If time ticks forward and the numbers do not appear to look ridiculous then you may still be awake. All and all if you are experiencing HI and you have a stiff body then utilize the imagination of floating. SP is the gateway to LD's so let floating be your trip into the LD.
