      Please help me!

I have a problem! Even though I have been keeping a dream journal and trying to LD every night, I haven't had a lucid dream yet! I try the WILD method every night, but the instant I lay down, I have the sudden urge to swallow! Help?

Don't worry, your lucid dream will come. As far as the swallowing goes, try to prop your head up. Use a bigger pillow or fold the one you have in half to hold your head up higher so saliva can just go down naturally.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

It's not even saliva! I just have the sudden urge to swallow, when I don't need to.

Well if its not saliva, (because i have the urge to swallow as well) maybe relax your throat and letting it go limp. By the way, what do you mean by you have the urge to swallow? Is actually an urge or do you actually have to swallow? Because you should always have the choise of resisting urges, maybe relax your jaw as well. Hope this works, but could you explain what you mean by urge? Do you really absolutely have to swallow? Or is it more like a temptaion?

It's like a REALLY uncomfortable feeling if I don't swallow.

      Swallow. No seriously, do it.

I have the EXACT same problem, don't listen to what other people have to say about it. Just think, when you go to sleep normally, and you have to swallow, what do you do? You swallow. And sooner or later you forget about swallowing and go to sleep.

Your only having trouble becuase you know that's the ONE thing you cant do, so thus that's what you want to do. But if you let yourself swallow you'll stop caring.

While the swallowing can prevent you from falling asleep, debating it in your mind is much worse.

      Good tip, systemslock.
Also, maybe I'm wrong, but the WILD technique is the more difficult technique, especially for beginners. When I do it I don't put pressure on myself for it to be successful, I just take the opportunity to get some meditation in and some great relaxing body sensations. I know that if it doesn't work I can always DILD.

I think your mind plays tricks with you sometimes. I don't have a problem with swallowing but when I try to WILD I find that when I'm relaxing all my muscles when I get to my jaw I NEED to let it open cos it feels like I'm consciously keeping it closed and then if my mind really wants to be a bstard it feels like my jaw is getting pulled down unnaturally, it can be really annoying.

I find meditating helps because when meditating your training your conscious mind to ignore your thoughts and worries. When I say ignore I really mean to allow your thoughts but when you find your mind engaged in them to release them... if you know what I mean lol. I read a book on meditation called 8 Minute Meditation and in this book there was an analogy of fishing where you catch a fish (idea, thought, worry etc) and you release it (stop thinking about it consciosly just allow it to pass like clouds drifting in the sky of your mind).

When I practise this I can overcome many things and stay very relaxed.

Technicallly I have had 2 DILDs but I woke up straight away

Its critical you dont try to hard.

Dont stress about swallowing - its not important. Also dont give up. When I WILD at the weekend I always succeed. Even though sometimes It takes up to 2 hours. During this time I might have to roll over every 30 mins or so.

People will tell you that swallowing makes you fail - or that if you cant WILD after 30 mins then you have failed. Frankly this is all BS.

The main thing is to be relaxed and ambivient about everything. Mind awake - body asleep. Just keep your mind active with simple visulizations, repetative tasks such as counting. Dont "want" to WILD too much - excitement will just keep you awake.

Lie still in your usual/prefered sleeping position. Be comfortable. Use simple relaxation techniques to ensure you are not tensing up anywhere. Then focus on your breathing and heart rate - slow your breathing by taking deeper longer breaths - your heart rate will slow also. Then just forget about everything except the "task" you have chosen to perform with your mind. Swallow if you need to, just do it naturally and dont stress about it.

Watch out for HH/SP to begin. Dont stress about wanting HH/SP to begin. Be ambivient to them when they do. Just note them as a sign that its nearly time.

Chill. Know that it takes time. Know that it works. Know that it will work with time if you chill.

Exactly. Just don't even move, in 5 or so minutes your body should relax and you will forget about even moving. The first part is one of the hardest.

Also, you will get a lucid dream at some point. It took me 3 months to get a QUALITY lucid dream, and just last night I got 2 in 1 night! (And I don't even keep a dream journal!) They lasted a full hour or more! It was amazing!

Keep it up man, and don't give up!
