Cool First Extremely Close Wild Experience Utilizing CAFFEINE!

Okay this might sound a bit crazy but I'll try to describe in best detail what I did but first some background information. I found out about the website about 5 days ago and haven't had a WILD but one DILD. I had never experienced sleep paralysis or anything of the sort. Honestly, i haven't gotten anywhere close to a WILD except last night. Anyways heres my story.

To be exact I consumed a small mcdonalds coffee about 5 hours before going to sleep. I think it was an iced mocha. When I go to sleep, I proceed as normal to have a WILD. At first I was just relaxing, counting, the normal stuff. An image here and there of some desert land. Eventually I was just about to quit and try to go to sleep in the same position that I was because I was tired anyways and thats when it struck me. I wasn't able to because of the coffee no matter how relaxed I was. Knowing that my mind wouldn't fall asleep, I tried relaxing as much as possible and it was amazing. I had total control of my body, I was barely swallowing almost no saliva excretion and then was when it happened. It's hard to describe but it felt to me like a surge of energy starting at my feet and ending at my thighs. I knew instantly that it was sleep paralysis, it was the first time it had happened and I was really excited but I knew I had to keep calm. One strange part was that the sleep paralysis did not reach my arms, only my legs. There was a significant difference between the feelings in my arms in legs. My legs felt like they only went up to my thighs and my arms merely just felt heavy. So I continued, drifting into uncharted territory. I kept counting and I became so relaxed that my breaths were extremely short. Then came the fun part that I thought was impossible until I experienced it. I started seeing images, but they started becoming faster and faster. I'd see one for a second and then I would be seeing another. Every breath I took I felt myself falling and it was amazing. It was like a slide show but so quick that it was more similar to a video. I was never able to actually go into the dream though. I think it was most likely the caffeine because I gave up the attempt and wasn't able to go to bed normally for 2 hours after that. Not really a fun night but the experience was amazing. So here is my hypothesis

CAFFEINE! Useful to keep your mind awake to advance to the end stages of a WILD but not enter your dream.

This would be useful for people who have never experienced sleep paralysis and/or the fast images.

My theory is that the caffeine keeps you alert so that you don't doze off. The way I personally went as far as I got was just thinking, Screw this I'm sleeping, and relaxing as much as I could despite being unable to fall asleep but still drifting farther into my conscious. I'm willing to give it another attempts with the caffeine because if it does work in that sense, it would be useful in giving first time WILDers the sense of relaxation required and the experiences of sleep paralysis and seeing the images or hallucinations.

I was researching a bit more on the WILD technique and happened to stumble on caffeine being used!

      http://stason.org/TULARC/mind/lucid-...-techniqu.html

For those that are too lazy to read up to or skip to the caffeine part I will post it here.

"Now that you know what you might experience when trying to consciously
enter the REM-period there is another problem we need to conquer. And
that is losing consciousness, a very common problem that is rather
easy to overcome. A good solution is Caffeine and
Theobromine. Caffeine is found in Coffee, Tea, Coke, Chocolate and
Pills. Theobromine is found in Chocolate. The problem is finding out
how much Caffeine works for you. A lot of experimenting has to be
conducted. A good place to start is with 0.5 liter Coke, a cup of
Coffee or Tea, half a pill or a chocolate bar. If you take too much
you will not start to dream at all, if you take too little you may
      lose consciousness.
But drinking 0.5 liter Coke is not very wise, it
has a very disturbing side effect. You should also stay up for about
30-60 minutes after waking up after 5-6 hours with sleep. This because
it takes about 45 minutes before the Caffeine reaches its full
      effect.
You might experience a DILD if you go to sleep right after
      some caffeine intake."

Accounting for the delay that caffeine has to kick in, this method probably is better suited for attempting a WILD before you sleep, not after 4/5 hours. I may try the caffeine method tonight again . It didn't work last time for me because I had TOO much caffeine even though it was a good amount of hours before.

Edit: Also read that caffeine improves dream recall.

Sweet! Were your eyes moving before the SP began? I always have trouble keeping my eyes still.

Yeah lol, but it stopped as I was relaxing before the SP kicked in. Also I figured out that I wasn't able to actually go into the dream because I had too much caffeine. I'll just try Coca Cola tonight which has much less amounts compared to coffee.

Just popping in a bit before sleeping. Drinking the coke atm I'm willing to try some lucid dreaming music. I heard this and liked it, just hearing it relaxed me.

As a caffeine addict, I love this technique so far

Another unsuccessful WILD but with a new experience, my first audible HI. However this is one of, if not the shortest attempt made so far. I didn't spend much time doing it

I follow the technique relaxing as always and I feel my body starting to feel heavy ect. Then I notice that I start hearing like a noise in my ears, similar to a buzzing. I try to remain calm and cool but my mind eventually got these random thoughts, perhaps by my DLPFC shutting down. (View this thread to understand http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=94231

Anyways I end up thinking about a friend I walked home with that had a service of repairing guitars. Then all of the sudden it hit me.

I hear a loud sound of a guitar string snapping and it scared the shit out of me LOL. I swear it sounded just as if it was real. I kind of moved my leg a bit but my concentration took a big tank because then I started thinking of scary stuff xD. I remember continuing the attempt for a while but then I don't remember whether or not I feel asleep in the attempt, or abandoned the attempt and fell asleep normally. Either way yields the same results. Will try again most likely with a WBTB method I really don't want to wake up the folks though.

Haha yeah man I had a similar experience to yours. I was laying there and felt my body getting heavier and static-ier. I heard faint noises here and there and began to see these strange spirals which sort of looked like DNA, just flying around. But my body was feeling so weird, and I had HUGE trouble staying concentrated. I had trouble keeping my eyes closed they kept trying to open and my body would twitch here and there. Any idea what to do?

LOL my eyes try to open themselves too, just relax the eyes aren't that much of a problem if they move a bit as long as their closed I assume. Try to WBTB it's what I will try. Many people say that is the easiest way to have a WILD and attempting to WILD when going to bed normally is extremely difficult.

Ah, I see. I'll try going to sleep late tonight. And what's WBTB?

Wake back to bed, it's a technique used as an aid in lucid dreaming. You sleep for about 4-6 hours wake up, do something for a minute or two like go to the bathroom then go back to bed. You will already be relaxed and skip the initial WILD stages and you will be very close to a REM already. Also, after that amount of sleeping being done during the night, you should have already gone through a few sleep cycles, making your next REM possibly the longest of the night meaning a longer dream.

Also what you said about the eyes moving, I found a website with some interesting information on that.
      http://www.sleepdex.org/stages.htm

It also goes into detail explaining what happens to you in REM, this could explain why you feel your heart randomly start to beat faster. Your eyes twitch at the start because its part of the falling asleep stages.

Yeah and the heart thing too. But i'm guessing it beats faster because i'm experiencing something I've never experienced before. I'll check that link out thanks
Going to bed in a few. Time to have another go

Last night, meh I felt like I got close to SP and the numbing sensation but then I just felt it dieing down because I might have swallowed or my eyes. I tried in school because I was bored and felt my hands vibrating before someone "woke" me up.
