Why do naps cause lucid dreaming?

Greetings, all! I have a question: a year ago, I attempted lucid dreaming but failed miserably in my endeavors and didn't have the patience to pursue it. However, I have found that a couple of times when I have had afternoon naps, I have accidentally achieved lucidity. Why is that and how can I duplicate the results? In short, what did I do right?

Some people achieve very good results with napping! This is because normally, you fall directly into REM sleep (the stage where we dream) during a nap. This has yet to work for me personally, but sounds like it works for you!

I'm going to guess it's attributed to the fact you're in a light stte of sleep. Which is when LD's usualy occur.

Thanks, guys, for the information! Is there any way that I can duplicate the results with certainty? It happens with some naps and not with others and I can't figure out why that is...

Well usually LD'ing from naps can happen when you are thinking a lot, and very tired, but it is daylight.

naps = sleep deprivation = instant REM = lucid dreaming!

a nap is the easiest time to attempt a WILD, unless you have noisy room mates

The logical part of your mind has been on all day so it's not going off as much for a nap, therefore you recognize dream signs easier.

I can WILD within about 20 minutes of laying down for the most part. I seem to completely skip SP though, I've never had it. I can have my eyes open and blink normally while in the vibrating stage of the WILD and once I even sneezed without ruining the WILD.

I can never nap.

EVER!!!
What if I told you that I am dreaming right now?
That your whole life is a lie?
That the laws of physics as you know them are incorrect?

Furthermore, what would you do if I told you I'm going to wake up as soon as you finish reading my signature?

Might be cause one seldom are awoken from a nap, rather one wake up when rested. Thus one mind the dream, and do not forget about it..

As opposed to say being awoken by a phone call, talking, and then having to remember the dream, if possible..
I know who I am, as I become...

It seems like many of you can't nap, i can't resist taking a nap!
I don't seem to enter any dreams, or atleast not vivid dreams when i take naps.

The reason for getting Lucid in naps is that when you take a nap you don't sleep that deep as when you go to sleep in the night.

wow, just had a weird nap.
I dreamt that i was going to get back to the chat.
I talked to someone at the chat and said that maybe i'll be back later, but he/she wasn't there so i told the others that where there to tell him/her that i will soon be back again. When i wake up from the nap i got back into the chat, and the one i was talking to where still there.

Sounds like it is a decent way to WILD.
Unfortunately I can't nap to save my life.

When I was studying psychology in college, I learned that not all dreaming occurs in REM sleep. This explains why when you're on the verge of sleep, like falling asleep watching a movie for example, you can wake up only seconds after falling asleep and remember a fairly elaborate dream!
This is alpha wave dreaming and the frontal lobes of your brain are more engaged, (or more correctly put, less disengaged). These frontal lobes are usually what become active and functional when you begin to realize you're ina dream. So WILDS are very easy with alpha wave dreaming, but can be less vivid and engulfing that REM lucids.

I napped yesterday, but I have no idea what my dream was about. I only remember that my heart was beating a bit faster than usual, but not a nightmare.

I would say I have at least an 80% success rate using this method.
