      Recurring Dreams

      A'hoy hoy,

To start off this wonderful forum, I'd like to bring up the entire recurring dreams ideal.

Typically, recurring dreams signify a personal empathy and attachment to what the dream translates to. It could be a problem at work, or a relationship problem, a crush, etc. Anyway, it's an issue that is consistently on someones mind.

Individuals who suffer from obsessive compulsive disorders will consistently have the same dream over and over again. Typically they are dreams similar to repeatively washing ones hands, or even killing someone.

      Other popular recurring dreams:
      - Being chased (usually by a murderer or dog)
      - Dying or a seeing a close one die
      - Running to nowhere
      - Falling
      - Killing fellow employee's
      etc.

I will add some more when I come up with a better analysis, but in the meantime, I am curious what other peoples recurring dreams are and then to see what their meaning could perhaps be.

Look forward to reading your dreams.

I love recurring dreams. I always become lucid during recurring dreams, which is often, and I can explore the places in my dream world that I didn't get to go the first time around. It's so cool!

intersting. I used to have some recurring dreams, but they were always different in some way or another. All my recurring dreams had the same setting, but never the same plot/event taking place. It was usually in some big antique house followed by scary things...

but that was like 1-3 years ago

EDIT: BTW O'nus, you seem really excited about this enterpreting thing. I'll be glad to post some of my stranger dreams for you to interpret if it interests you.

I can sometimes induce recurring dreams to exactly what happened. It's kinda cool. Maybe pointless to others, but I on the other hand enjoy an adventure!

Antique house... would you elaborate? Usually houses in dreams represent your preception and empathy towards your home and where you live; essentially your family.

Perhaps you felt that, those couple years ago, your family was a little condescending and "tight" on rules? That they were trying to hard to force you to accept older traditions or their way of thinking and taking care of things. That they might have tried pressuring you into doing things that they wanted you to do which you did not agree with?

Of course, from just what you said, it is really stretching it and guessing, but perhaps it is vaguely close?

I always have dreams where I have some objective to carry out. Some kinda task. It could be as simple as asking a question or as complicated as figuring out a paradox. This seems to always occur in my dreams. Sometimes I get them done, sometimes I don't. And everytime I do get my objective done, it's like I earn credits in my dream. It's kinda like a game or something.

Not necessarily a recurring dream though, more like, you are succesfully completing tasks and moving on.. while making some money in the process.

What kind of tasks? How did they make you feel? Stressed? Perfectly comfortable?

Many people have dreams where they are completely uncertain as to what the task is, perhaps the fact that you are always certain of your tasks could mean that you have a profound desire for something; that you keep thinking, "I need this!", whatever 'this' might be.

      What do you think?

It's like once I'm there I'm either directly informed of what to do, or I have to figure it out myself. Like for example, I had one dream where I had to join up with my friends Chayla and Louie and help stop a child smuggling cartel. They were shipping kids from our school to other countries to work. We had to fight against them to stop it. The feeling I get when doing these tasks is kinda exciting, but then indifferent at the same time.

Oh, and we did save the students.

Well, it sounds to me like your recurring dreams are about your close relationships and taking on the challenges of life.

They could simply mean that you feel close to your friends and are thinking about how much you appreciate them.. or that you you have lately been having some problems with other people who are insulting you and your friends, creating a group versus group idea.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

In these dreams, has anyone ever died? How were the problems resolved when there is an opposing party such as a drug cartel?

Well the house was fairly big and it felt like one of those houses where it's old fashion and someone old would live in, but it was beautiful(almost all the furniture was made of wood/mahogany. I think there was a small chandelier and a porch. There were stairs to the second floor and when I went up there, usually something scary happened(killing string puppets that can climb walls/houses, possesion of inaminate objects, ghosts, evil in general, etc). I even tried to leave the house once, but a spirit appeared and shut the door and wouldn't let me leave. I think she wanted me to stay there forever and be totured or something crazy like that. I think this house was part of my old neighborhood before I moved. I have a feeling that it was the house right across the street from my old one since in of my dreams(even though i've never been inside), I looked outside the window and across the street was my old house. Although this house sounds strikingly similar to my friend's grandparent's house inside, except for everything being nice inside....

I don't know about the rules. My parent's have always been lenient about rules and they let my brother and I do pretty much what we want to do as long as it wasn't criminal or bad. I think you're right about the forcing tradition thing though, they always tried to enforce us in being christians and going to church even though I had no idea what the priest was saying(brazilian church). They've stopped making us go though. I don't think they pressured me into anything, maybe my brother with his grades, but I always got good ones

Hey nightowl, have you ever walked in on your parents? You know what I mean. Also, did you recently move?

For another note on recurring dreamsl; I forgot to mention one of the most important!

      The Oedipus Dreams

These common dreams amongst many, many people involve some sort of attraction or sexual relation to ones own parent. Often followed by self-loathing and reproach, although a common dream that really is not "weird" at all.

Since we initially learn about each gender through our parents and learn to compare other people we meet to our parents, develop who we are attracted to, who we get along with, etc. These dreams represent desires to meet these certain people that would live up to the standards of ones parents.

Of course, I really cannot say I would expect anyone to come forth and speak about having an Oedipus dream as most deem it utterly embarrasing immediately, regardless that they are one of the most popular recurring dreams known to psychological history within dreams.

Has anyone else read anything on the Oedipus complex and dreams?

No, thank god though that I havent walked in on them. I always knock on their door before i enter the room and ask permission to enter in order to prevent me from seeing anything, but they are rarely in their bedroom together other than sleep. To be honest though I have seen my mom naked which was kind of weird. A couple of years ago after her showers sometimes she would run from the bathroom to her bedroom completely naked and other time she would be in the bathroom after the shower naked, getting ready, but she would leave the door open. but she doesn't do this anymore.

I had to look up Oedipus and im guessing that it involves some sexual relation with your mother? Truthfully, I can say I haven't had this kind of dream before. It's interesting though....

Hm.. could you perhaps recall one of these recurring dreams with more details? Having a little trouble from the vagueness, lol.

The Oedipus complex is quite the intricit psychology within child development (which I would really not rather delve into here in Dream Interpreation.. maybe another time.. if enough people seem interested). The most common Oedipus is having sex with ones own mother. The female Oedipus complex, Elektra, is something I have yet to really hear much about...

Some of my own recurring dreams include the sun. I would see the sun changing forms, colors, or, often, exploding/imploding. Sometimes I would first see the sky and it would be a thunderstorm or lightning, thunder, etc. I would not often be frightened, if at all, more or less feeling as though the end of a saga has finally come.

i used to have a recurring dream when i was much younger where i would be at an indoor pool party of sorts...as time went on, the people at the pool party would be my current classmates...anyway, i would have to go to the bathroom, but in a cutscene-esque fashion, it would show some random kid switching the signs on the bathroom and a nearby door, whos sign reads 'warning, do not enter'...(the entire dream was like a movie...i'd watch it in 3rd person)...anyway, i'd go into the room with the restroom sign on it (the one that previously had the 'do not enter' sign)...inside there would be a tree made various internal organs which would eat me...from there is would flash to me watching my brother kill various monsters/mutants...some of which would eventually see me, and come after me...i would always be overcome by them and eaten, where i'd feel myself suffocating inside one of the monsters...everything would be black, and i'd wake up...always after this dream i'd wake up having difficulty breathing...coughing alot etc.

...i also often have very similar dreams where i'm killing my friends/love interests/co-workers...though i think i know what those mean...

Ill try my best to describe the dream that I had in the house, but it was long ago

I remember that I just came from the kitchen and it was dark outside and a little dark inside to. i had a little sister with me(5-7 years old), but I dont even have a sister and she wore one of those white farm dresse. Anyway as we exit kitchen I tell her to stay close to me because I know that the house is evil/possesed and full of ghosts and stuff. We immediately go up the stairs and somehow we've ended up in a room by accident. Everything in the room(which seems to look like a child's room) seems to be evil(many dolls moving towards us with evil faces and I could just sense it was bad)I think I saw a possessed clown in there. It sort of looked half-dead to. I managed to get us out. We got into another, bigger, room that looked like another kitchen. It was safe though and there was light. There was window in there and I looked outside to see what was going on. It's very dark and the I can see my old house from the window. I look at the driveway and I see a huge car crash. In the car I see a string puppet. I've realized that my parents are dead and so is my aunt(we were close back then) and the cause was the string puppet(he caused the accident somehow). I'm stricken with an overwhelming feeling of greif and sadness. Before I could react to anything, the puppet inside the car started to move. All of a sudden he managed to get out of the car, climb the house I was in, to the second floor and reached the window I was looking through in a matter of seconds. He tried to get in and kill us, but the screen was holding him back. That's all I remember from that dream and this is the only dream that I remember the most. if thats not specific enough then I can give you bits and pieces from what I remeber from the other recurring dreams

I like your interpretation of this dream. And, yes people have died in my dreams. But for some reason it seems that I'm immortal. I've been attacked by 30 foot crocodiles, hit by speeding cars, drowned in the ocean, shot by sniper rifles, and lot's of other bizarre happenings, but it always seemed that I would come out okay. But I have to play hero to save the dream characters because they, however, are not invincible. In the dream where me and my two friends saved the kids, no one died thankfully. There was a lot of fighting though. You know, kung fu and karate. The cartel left with a lot of cuts and bruises, but the kids stayed safely at the school and were tended for. One of my happier endings.

      Recurring dreams...

I've only ever had a handfull of recurring dreams, but like Jin I found it easier to recognize that i was dreaming at that point, and begin my LD. They are very interesting to say the least, especially the characters involved in them....

      Stay classy,
