Did I enter the hypnagogic state?

Last night, I tried to have a WILD, a couple of minutes after I started, my arms and everything up to my chest started having that "pins and needles" feeling while my head was beating wildly, I could see a mostly black door with the Half-Quake evil smily on it, I got very scared and all that pretty much just left, so did I enter the hypnagogic state and then ruin it for myself, or was it just something else?

That was hynogogia all right. You're lucky... I never get to the hallucinations. But I've gotten the "pins and needles" aka Sleep Paralysis (SP). And it's natrual to get scared... even if the visual hallucinations are fine, sometimes the hallucinations can be in the form of a feeling - such as fear. Next time, try to grab the door and zoom into it. Not physically of course, but mentally. If you do that right then you're in an LD.
I've never gotten a WILD to work right. But lots of people say that WILDs are among the most vivid, high lucid dreams you can get. Good luck!

      Thumbs up

Thanks, although I imagine that door being the entrance to Half-Quake, (it's a HL modification where you are captured by a bunch of sadists and put through a series of trials and traps) so let's just hope that I'll be able to imagine something else beyond that door.

Edit: If you want to know what the place looked like, it was all in the style of Half-Quake Amen, IE: everything was black except for a few lines in the shape of a door that had an evil smily face on it, you'll see what I mean if you play the mod (or you can even find the smily just by looking at the mod's site quickly).

Is a WILD where you try to stay concious while you sleep? I have to say, it sounds somewhat boring But once you've done it I guess it would be good.
That was the first technique I tried. I dont think I actually managed to do it that way, but I started dreaming none the less. I did an RT, and vóila, I knew I was dreaming... for about 4 seconds, and I woke up

Yeah, a WILD is where you try to stay conscious while you sleep, also, try to control your excitement, that can easily wake people up.

Boring? Read about the hypnogogic state, then call WILD boring .

It's your lucid. You can find whatever you want behind the door. Then again, you could always go with whats supposed to be there, and then kick their asses .

Yeah, I definately could imagine something else, that would be the smartest thing, ever actually played Half-Quake Amen? It's difficulty makes normal Half-Life seem very tame.

Sounds like you reached HI, just keep at it, it seems you are sucessful so far with this so you need to focus on not letting these scary images bother you. Just ignore them and enjoy the transition to the dream.

Thanks anyway, but it wasn't the images, it was the pounding head.

Hmm, thats a strange one, have you tried diverting your thoughts away from your pounding head and concentrating on what you intend to dream about?

      OMG!!!

This is exactley what happened to me on the first night i found out about LD's. I came to this site, read the info, and tried to WILD. I repeated to myself some thrase until i couldn't stop repeating it in my head. Then eventually i was sorta paralysed. I mean, i felt like i could move if i wanted to, but i just didn't. Then my head did the pounding thing and i had a sensation where my body was rocking all over the place in an elastic kind of way (Not physically of course). The pounding and rocking sensation felt cool, so i focused on the head pounding and found i could control the direction i was mentally rocking, and i was still aware of my surroundings! But then i started hearing some sounds which felt out of place. I got a bit freaked cause they sounded so real and they were dragging on for about 10 seconds. Throughout these 10 seconds i lost the rocking thing. I thought it could be a WILD hallucination and immediatley thought that mabye it wasn't a good idea. It only got worse, i could actually feel whatever it was on the back of my head. This woke me up completely. Lying still i waited for it to reoccur, it did so i jumped out of bed and turned on the lights. After going through my pillow case "IT" jumped out at me. A cochroach had spoilt my first attempt at an LD.

I didn't get any door, but if i kept on with the head pounding and rocking (without being interrupted by a cochroach), do you think i could have attained Lucidity? Keep in mind that it was my first time.

There's a good chance of it. Hypogogic hallucinations would have followed, most likely. I get rocking sensations too, and hynogogia always follows, for me. But they're so scary I usually back out. The sounds are so real, and I hear footsteps and creaking doors . Just remember they can't hurt you... good luck to you!

Oh yeah, and focusing too much on the hallucinations can bring you out of a WILD attempt.
