^^^ uhh, freefall and instant death...well at 100K feet you'd probably run out of air anyway so you wouldn't even be able to enjoy the freefall

I wonder why you can't see any stars out there.

I'm pretty sure it's due to the fact that the earth is many times brighter than the stars around it when it is lit by the sun, which results in very "washed" out stars, or in cases like this where you just simply can't see them at all. The earth simply outshines them. Don't hold me to that though, but I'm pretty sure that's the case with pictures like these.

      Very cool project!

I guess you'd have to be pretty good at making excuses to think the Earth was flat these days. I was going to say if it can be done so easily and cheaply, they could probably afford to try it themselves. But now that you mention it, they'd probably just say something like "it's an optical illusion" or "we just happened to photograph a round cloud formation" or "the camera malfunctioned" etc..

hah, extremely funny that you should mention that. One of my friends once made an account on their forum asking why it could be that photographs taken from jetplanes in extremely high altitudes clearly shows the curvature of the earth... most of the members indeed responded with an explanation of an optical illusion (of course you only really have a choice of using these kind of examples as space photos are quickly ignored due to the obvious conspiracy that NASA is part of)

Not only that, but that's also how they dismissed the fact that you can't see the supposedly high ice wall at the edge... you see, it "dissapears" in the illusion of the curvature

One quick pro tip, never try to argue with these people.

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic btw :3

You can even see the curvature of the earth from the ground. Assuming you got a flat enough area(such as the ocean).

I looked it up and it took over 4 minutes for him to fall. As for the reason he didn't burn up, its because he still wasn't that far up. Most meteorites burn up while they are at 250,000+ feet. The earth atmosphere technically reaches to a height of 33,000,000 feet. The space shuttle goes around the earth at 600,000-2,000,000 feet. So the space shuttle while returning falls through an extra 500,000 feet of atmosphere.

Well it gets really thin when you get out there. When people think 'space' they normally think about 300,000 feet or higher. Which is about the minimum you can call space. However there is still gas far beyond that point, and if you wanted to get really picky some people say you need to get out of earths gravity. Outside of earths gravity, would be past the moon.

According to Wikipedia, this is their version of the globe.

That is one amazing science project. I wonder why no one thought of this earlier.

If I wanted to argue it, I would say that gravity may have bent the light to make the earth look round.

Of course, I don't believe that, I just pulled that out of the air

Objects like meteors and asteroids that enter our atmosphere, are usually flying at enormous speeds, much faster than any speed a human can gain just by falling.
