Problem Drawing Images From My Mind

Well, when a while ago, I was really bad at drawing. Since I lack really any motor skills (

) my drawings sucked so badly. But, in Grade 7, I realized I was really good at drawing people's faces in satire (which hilariously enough was me trying to draw a person good&#33

. Using my signature purple permanent marker, I would draw people's faces. It would look really realistic, but slightly deranged and funny, especially the noses. I also was able to draw pictures of things I could see close up, like a picture from a book or a pen. When I graduated grade 8, I managed to win (among other awards) the ART AWARD! I walked up to the stage and me and my entire family and my friends were like WTF? I'm usually your typical math computer guy.....

But the problem is I'm terrible at drawing images from my head. For example, a dream. Usually when my mind wanders and I think of something, the visualizations can get very realistic, especially when I'm very tired. When I try to visualize on purpose I can barely do it. It's hard for me to get an image on paper from my head, since the visualizations are so unclear, especially with my eyes open, and it's hard to keep the images consistant.

Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem. If I can see something, I can draw it pretty good. But, if I try to picture something and draw, it usually ends up horrible.

I don't really have any advise myself, other than practice. Just about any artist ( Or anyone else) will tell you that it's the only way to esriously get better at anything.

i'm pretty much at the same point as you guys are. i can see something in my mind pretty vividly, but i can't seem to get it down on paper right. i used to be one of the best drawers when i was in lower grade school and now i'm terrible. i've been looking to my dreams for inspiration.

my advice man is just grab a pencil and just go but very light and fast, then if you have to go over it again it wont matter you will eventually get what you want

I think it is a great idea to build the mental image on paper with circles rough circles will help you get the shapes then you go over them with a stronger line to detail.......... then also as ever practice pratice pratice.......... I have been a pro artist for a long time and i still have not been able to master drawing exact imagination images however when you get close it is amazing what can be produced.................. all the best
