I play Accoustic. I own an Accoustic Ibanez which has a buitl in microphone and mini-equaliser. It has an Output so you can also play on an amp with FX on it.

But I always play accoustic. I only plug in when I'm going to jam with my band.
Accoustic guitars have a wonderfull, unique sound.

After all these years of playing, I finally decided to go after a long-time dream and start tackling jazz in the proper manner - not just learning some grips and scales and arpeggios, but rather approaching my instrument and the whole structure of jazz as a language. I'm about six months into that right now. It has been a humbling experience, but all good.

I recently ran an ad on CraigsList to find somebody else wanting to get together a couple times each month and just jam a bit - meet in the park with acoustics and run through Real Book standards to gain some experience. I've hooked up with a guy just a few miles from me - we're supposed to give it a go next weekend!

And therein lies the real beauty of acoustic guitar for me. Besides loving the wild variety of sound from the different styles of acoustic guitars and approaches to playing them, they are truly portable. We will be able to plop down in a quiet place in a park and just go at it.

I'll check that out.

The guy I met with this afternoon was from Russia!!!! He's a fabulous guitarist and versed in a wide variety of "world" styles. I expect to learn a lot from him.

Thankfully, there are things I can teach him too. We are at about the same level as far as jazz. It will be fun.

Welcome back, Cryo.

Wow, alot more people play acoustic then I thought! Sweet!

So, PJ, did you guys do an outdoor concert? We kinda had one at our school, except 10 people all took turns on one guitar.

It wasn't a concert - we just met in the park to jam for ourselves. We're both jass students, though we've also both been playing for a long time and are pretty accomplished in other styles.

Funny little bit from that... as we were parting company, I told him that I'd let him know the next time our band is playing - that we're worth checking out just to see and hear the lead guitarist. He responded with, "You mean YOU aren't the lead guitarist? How could that be?"

So that was a nice complement. Compared to our lead player, though, I'm the rankest of amateurs. Waldon is absolutely incredible. (He's doing the guitar work for a big production of Cats right now.)

Kewl stuff there, Ska - thanks for posting it. A lot of very standard jazz voicings there. The rhumba feel is very sweet - a nice change from the swing I've been immersed in for months now.

<--- fan of the acoustic (sleep with one right at my bedside).
Wish I had something more meaningful to add to the thread, but nothing comes to mind at the moment.

Yeah It's a very jazzy style of music. It's where Jazz meets South-American warmheartedness what they call Bossanova. Actually I just found a youTube vid of an Israëli talkshow where the original artist and writer of this song comes to play it in the studio live with a flutist:
Here

I've started playing guitar when I was pretty much Metal/Punk-minded. Thank God I have always had an interrest in a wide spectrum of Music styles so now I've totally mastered, Ska, Reggae, RockSteady, Mysterious metal tunes, Spanish Flamenco/Fandango, Rumba, Country and Funk. And basically any chords & rythms I hear I can learn to play quite fast. Lately I'm more into learning Bossanova and other south american music styles. I love the combinations of tones and chords that are very strange and alien as experienced through a western musical perspective.

And actually earlier tonight I was talking to a neighbor who is from the Surinams and he asked me to come and jam with his Surinam band. Way cool to jam in such a sunny and rythmic way that is yet again completely new to me.

You've mastered Flamenco?

That is no small feat. I'm impressed.

I've never heard of Surinam. Something else to go looking for.

There is so much good music in the world.

Yes!

I'm just learning - just starting to get decent at comping. I'm about six months into it.

What style(s) of jazz do you play?

Sweet, this is the forum for me.

I'm glad that we have some musicians among us, I was afraid I was the only one. Yes, I play the acoustic Guitar, infact I don't even have an Electric. Not that I don't like or plan to, I just have not felt the need. I love playing my guitar. The last song that I learned was an Acoustic version of "Island in the Sun" by Weezer. You can actually watch it on YouTube if you look it up specifically.
