I really like this one! But I think the ending is too sudden. To me it sounds like somebody cut it too soon.

Yeah but that's because it's not a completed song(yet). These are loose Ideas I came up with and wanted to store. Which is why they aren't great sound quality either. The thing is the idea is captured and can be taken to a studio with the new, great musicians I found recently.

PS: Isn't it rather strange to praise someone for their talent? Can't you only praise or blaim someone for doings of their own free will? Well sure I enjoy appreciation of my musical efforts, but I didn't choose to be musically talented, I just was born musically/creatively gifted. It doesn't nececairily make me a better, or even a good, person does it?

Some of the EQ levels need some work, and there's a few timing issues with some of the parts, in general. Other than that, I think you're on to something with that dub track. It stopped a little sudden for my tastes, but I guess you aren't finished with it.

What hard/soft synths and DAW software do you use? I'd like to know before I criticize the sounds selected.

No It's far from finished. And I knew the Sound is totally unprofessional crap. It was merely to record the idea and later take it into the studio to make a song out of it.
And I used a simple freeware track recording program called Audacity.

Yeah well it has a Dub-piece in it in the sense it goes drum and base solo for a little while, but the Beat + Ubeat is more RockSteady really. I like Dub, RockSteady, Ska AND Reggae so I tend to put more then just 1 style in songs I write.

Ska Influenza.

Audacity? Hmm, I've never heard of it. For freeware it gets pretty decent quality but still fuzzy. I'm curious as to how many of the sounds selected are loops and how much of it is original programming/recording? I'm inclined to believe it's mostly prefabricated loops because a lot of the sounds selected are natural instruments and just don't quite seem to fit or flow as far as the impact, timing, and tempo go. If you played all the parts out, then I apologize and bow down in advance. Otherwise, outside of recording WAVs a lot of these free DAW's (ie. Sony's Acid) only allow for arrangement and editing of pre-fabricated loops and samples, making it kind of similar to a three card monte act if you aren't importing or recording an original recording of a natural instrument or hard synth yourself. It's only after you upgrade to pro, that you are provided with a slew of on-board synths or can import other VST's which allow original sculpting and creation of sound. I haven't personally heard of this particular software so I'm not sure how it operates, but if it operates the same as normal freeware, then it's pretty much stripped of all original functionality. Being a producer myself, I'm kind of a rabid purist for original sounds and original work. So, if it's all original, props.

Anyway, about the last song, do you play the sax or is that just a sample of one? I play the sax so that's what initially raised a red flag on loop-use, but if you played it, then that's some awesome and crystal-clear playing! If not, then meh... I'm really nit-picky, especially when it comes to the use of instrumental samples because even if they are royalty-free it's essentially taking someone else's talent, time, and work and calling it your own.

Actually that Sax is my Synthesizer. I played it though. You DO have to admit it's a pretty good Sax-Sample my Synth has I DO have a trompetist and a tromonist for my band and we're indeed looking for a saxophonist. These recordings are my imediate plans that needed imediate recording before great ideas would be forgotten. This is far from the eventual way I wish to create them. Off course with real musicians and eventually live on stages. There my Roll will be Guitarist/Singer, but this Synthesizer work is what I record to remember and bring to my fellow musicians to jam and develop on.


The Only Prefab things I used where the beats in the Ska and Reggae songs. The rest was played and recorded straight away. Anything Melodic you hear are my ideas and me playing on my synthesizer. The Chords, The Bassline, The solo instruments and sometimes some vocals. And I only copied and pasted like 30 - 50 second recordings to make the track just that little bit longer. Since Audacity seems to have a bit of rush and gets less refined in sound the more tracks are added I tend to do as much as I can in 1 recording. I often do the Bass and Upbeat in one recording. Maybe copy and paste it 1ce to lengthen the track times 2.

In the last song I posted I only used the Prefab Synth beat to guide me and build the bass, upbeat and double sax-solo upon. Then I deleted the Prefab Beat-track and recorded hand-played drums on my synth. Just Ears and Hands.

SolSkye, Why do you question my Music's "Me-level"? I didn't use prefab loops like I told you. I can play it all at once and live too. I feel as though you've had the idea of "Busting me" on making music which is not my own but it is. Don't you make electronical music yourself? Well anyway...

As a response to this, and because it seems like fun, I'm going to record a movie of me playing some of this stuff or new stuff I wrote.

Made another Ska tune yesterday, recording only guitar. The bass is also guitar but just double tracked of which 1 track is lowered 1 octave and given a little bassboost.
