      Anyone ever notice...

That we people draw, the picture has similar characteristics to how they write? It's hard to explain, but it's like graphology. A long time ago in art class I noticed all my drawings shared similar line characteristics, ect. Can it be said that a person's style is a visual representation of a person's soul(not going too deep into whether it's immortal or not)?

Perhaps, I thought it might. I really see similarities though.

Neo, it makes sense to me. As it has been said that artists usually (whether intentional or not) draw themselves when drawing a character. Some is believed to be due to the fact that we draw what we see through repetition - ourselves. We see the reflection of ourselves in the mirror every day, study our characteristics, etc. All that adds up and influences what (the artist) creates. You ever hear about art therapy? Or how children are studied through their drawings to see if they have depression or problems at home? Same thing.

Art (visual, writing, or music) is usually an expression of something the person has inside. So, it makes sense that their personality is reflected in what they do. Actually, that may be the whole point for most artists.

I'm not that great at drawing (though if I practiced I know I could improve), but when I do draw, I do notice that the lines and details reflect my handwriting. There are certain patterns that I seem to follow and certain shapes that I favor. Just like my writing, though, my mood can dictate whether or not my "doodles" contain more long, flowing, gentle lines, or shorter, edgier (if it's not a word, it is now) shapes.

Now that I think of it, I recall when I was younger, I would draw shapes in such a way that the lines of objects wouldn't touch each other. All of the pieces were separate, even if they were close enough to almost touch. I just realized that I still draw that way. Whether that interests anyone or not, I threw that out there more as an observation for myself.

I don't think my drawings really reflect my handwriting...my drawings are way better looking than my handwriting.

I guess the only time I can really relate my drawings to my mood is when I can't think of anything to draw and get fruserated and then scribble on the whole paper

I don't really draw much.. but like.. when I do.. it usually reflects either the mood I'm in or what I'm feeling. But, yeah, I did realize that my drawings.. writings and such.. they reflect me.. who I am.

Same here, big time. However, consider that writing is more of a left-brain activity, while drawing is right-brain (or vice versa, I always forget). The marks you produce while doing critical/logical thinking should be different when using creative/expressive thinking.

Or maybe it's that you're trying to use an expressive/creative physical activity (writing involves the same tools as drawing) - to express a thought from the portion of your brain trained for something else.

      Hmm....

It makes a lot of sense. Anything artistic is based on expression, so naturally it will reflect your emotions. I'm very directionless at the moment (in life), and it shows in both my writing and on the occasion when i try to draw (or create music). My writing seems to change often. I mean i have a writing style, but i just seem to approach the page differently with my style each time i write, or even in the same session. And my writing itself is really messy and all over the place.

Likewise my drawings never know what they are turning into, because i feel no purpose or direction when undertaking the task. I have no idea what i'm doing on the page, and end up not caring, so i stop drawing. It's exactly the same with my music.

I write utterly sloppy and can't draw a stick figure straight.

      Hmph.
