I Need Some Ideas for a Comic

I'm finally trying to sit down and do what I've always said I'm going to do. I'm starting to realize there is good chance that I will only draw comics in the future and not actually write them, lol.

The thing is when I sit down to write the comics I can't think of the words I want. So, maybe you folks can help out. I turn to a lucid dreaming forum because the whole reason I ever even got into lucid dreaming was to improve my creativity, so that's where I'm going to look for creativity.

Right now I'm explaining an intro to the comic. I'm explaining the events that have lead up to what is happening in the story which will take place in about the year 2095.

This is what I have for the year 2038 so far:

-Earth has been crippled due to wars and pollution.
-Polar ice caps are melted and most of the earth is covered in water
      -Ecosystems are quickly collapsing.
-U.N. is the one and only government.
-Laws are extremely strict and Death is the punishment for most of them.
-Technology is quickly advancing due to the governments trying to find solutions to the quickly dying planet.

Right now I'm stuck at the technologies that have been discovered at this point in time. I've only come up with artificial gravity and cryostasis so far. So I'm looking for what you folks think would be around by the year 2038.

Progress levels for civilizations in d20 Future

List of technologies available for civilizations in d20 Future

Although you aren't making a roleplaying game, you could very well use that list to postulate where your civilization is on that scale, and very well mix and match technologies presented in the first and second links. They are both very useful, but I wouldn't take what they say to the letter. After all, the future is a very weird place, and our guesses could be very wrong compared to what the world may actually be like. However I would like to tell you to ignore the roleplaying talk in the links if you are not a fan of such things.

Thanks, I like to keep such resources at hand for myself, especially when I write my own fiction. Roleplaying information is pretty good when applying it to the world of fiction, as the rules and mechanics behind it function quite similarly. If you need anything else just look up the site for information and whatnot, it's pretty self-explanatory. There are resources for many things, including weapons, equipment, technological advances in those two categories, when powered armor may feasibly develop, etc. The whole d20 modern portion of the site in general is mostly oriented for a modern setting, but thank god for d20 future. It helps me alot when I try to write about futures where space exploration is feasible.

Your welcome Gest. But yeah, this thread was about WhiteUnit's comic. I WANT MORE INFO ABOUT IT. Tell us about potential characters, potential plotlines, settings, locations, conflicts. The more we hear the more we can discuss and create ideas. If we understand the way you want your world to be we can understand how that world came to be and then how the world is because of those very same factors. We alter and twist the ideas till they become more realistic and plausible, creating a world much like our own except for the few details you stated above. =3

What is called when you genetically modify someones cells to make them some sort of super-mutant?

Genetic engineering. However, primitive forms of that technology already exist in modern-day. We genetically modify plants and animals, but we don't give them superpowers. To date, we haven't found ways to alter the DNA of organisms while they are in a matured or still-developing state without potentially killing them, so most of this stuff happens pre-conception. This is a stark different between the genetic engineering presented in some sci-fi stories compared to the technology we already have at our disposal. But hey, it's the future, baby, anything can happen.

By then they'll have invented cars that run on aborted fetuses. The main characters can live in abortionville, USA and the comic can follow their depraved behavior as they work at an abortion clinic in the dystopian future.

Ha! What a terrible misrepresentation of the future!!

      There won't be any USA.

you need to explain the wars that happened previously, why they occured and amongst whom.

what will be the energy supply for your comic world? maybe energy could be the cause of the war?

i suggest you sit down with a map of the earth, find which low lying areas will be flooded should the polar ice caps melt, and see what will be left. if the middle east is flooded you can't have oil as the main energy source, unless there is a reserve somewhere else that is over water. check out alternative energy sources, then you can think about technology. it would be cool to have a band of agrarian mutant radicals to fight the government.

why are ecosystems collapsing? what's happening on the leftover land to make that happen? how are people staying alive? somebody has to be producing food/clean water. forced labour farms?

how will technology advance if everything else is in decay and dying?

i hope these questions help you and good luck!!! it sounds awesome! when you have it done i'd love to get a copy.

The only problem I see is the one with the world being mostly flooded. You'll probably need to explain that by some means other than global warming, because, in reality, global warming is being blown out of proportion. At worst it will melt Greenland's ice sheet, but Antarctica (which holds 90% of Earth's ice) will remain quite safe, as it's not as close to the equator as Greenland. And since the Arctic ice sits directly on top of the ocean, melting it would have little or no effect on sea level due to volume displacement.

Also interesting to note is that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimates that by the year 2100, the sea level would only have risen 20 inches - an amount that would only be a bother to coastal towns like Miami etc.

Not trying to rain on your parade, here, I'm just saying. You should find something unrelated to global warming to melt that much ice... like some human-related freak accident at an Antarctic power plant or something... you decide.

Otherwise, it's a good idea. It certainly looks as though things are going to head down that road...

You could always say Al Gore took global warming into his own hands and used a giant laser from outer space to melt all iceforms on earth in order to PROVE HE WAS RIGHT.

Starry starry night, paint your pallet blue and gray,
Look out on a summers day,
with eyes that know the darkness of my soul.
