      Writer's Block

      Hello all.
I've written a few short stories in the past, but they all wound up in the trash before I could complete them. I'd do good for a few pages, everything will come out fairly smoothly, quickly, and then I lose my inspiration. It just disappears and this unfinished story lays around on my desk until finally I throw it away in disgust.
I want to start writing again, I have the urge to write, but I can't think of a concept to write on. Anyone know some good ways to get the creative juices flowing?

Music. ALWAYS music, any kind at all, I find instrumentals or orchestrations work best for me. Try looking for stuff by Clint Mansell, or Rob Dougan, those both work great for me.

Maybe read other works, find something easy to read, someting inspiring, anything at all. Find your own way, make it work.

Yeah, that and your own life experiences, movies...

And if you lose inspiration after a few pages, maybe that's your cue to shorten your stories. It's okay to have a super, super short story, as long as every word is dense with meaning.

Or, take a break. Sleep on it. Let your subconscious think on it for a while. Come back to it the next day or the day after that. Hopefully you'll have a realization and be able to continue after that.

Also, get high. The herb is often a great source of inspiration.

You should save all your "trashed" stories like I do. I have a folder on my computer called recycle bin where I put all my failed attempts at chapters. Sometimes you can splice apart ideas from your old to contribute to the new. Sometimes with a few tweaks you can get entire paragraphs, so it saves time in the long run.

Also as the above user suggested just sit back and imagine your story as you listen to music. Music helps set the enviroment of a piece and may inspire new ideas.

Also, does anybody here feel like when they write that you are writing somebody elses story? Like it's somebody elses idea that you are channelling? I usually get this feeling when I write, and so does a friend of mine.

I sometimes write stuff with the intent of being original but I later look back on it and discover I unconsciously included the ideas of others.

I discovered that there's no real creativity. We are bound to copy some things. What we think of creativity is simply finding ways to utilize the ideas around us in an original way.

That's not quite what I mean.
When I write, I don't know what's going to happen next. I don't really know what's happening until I write it.

Well guys, I've been writing a little. I want to post it and let you guys read it. Should I post it in this thread or should I start a new one?

Edit: I posted it in a new thread.
