Tell Me About The Third Eye

I found some stuff on this forum about it, but most of the threads are dead.
I was to practice third eye meditation, I know it is the brow chakrah, etc.
Can you guys tell me your experiences with opening it? meditating? what it is like, how you feel etc etc.

      and I am in them
      and that is eternity.

From what I've heard, meditation on the third eye helps prevent it from calcifying and can be used as a gateway to view the unseen. Meditation helps open it too and from what I heard, it is usually a good experience. People say that it helps them see spirits and otherworldly beings and aids them in Astral Projection. Rarely do people ever say they regret opening it. I myself have yet to open it, but I did find a good PDF file on it.

Here's the link in case you're interested.

What you should do is go outside at night and stare at the moon for thirty minutes. You will connect with the energy of the moon and it will help the energy to flow out your forehead. When you look at things, focus on the feeling you get when looking at them. Look at people in the eyes. Can you feel what they are feeling? Can you feel their intentions? Make eye contact with people. Make eye cantact with random people you walk by and say hi. People who are weak don't like to make eye contact. People who have power are not afraid to look at someone in the eyes, kind of like I'm not afraid to kick your ass but I see you as family. Focus on the feelings you get when you look at people.

For one thing, I'd ask the following:

is it considered to be an actual physical organ or simply a metaphorical state of mind, a psychological mindset, so to say?

I think it's a little of both. The 3rd eye is often tied to the pineal gland which is in the center in your brain. So basically, opening your 3rd eye also activates your pineal gland and since you can't actually see your 3rd eye, it could be considered an invisible organ.

It's true that you can feel emotion by focusing on a person, doesn't have to restrict to eye contact in my experience tho. But that's generally the way to do it.
I have spent countless days trying to do this with the sun and the moon but nothing intense happened.
Although i must say eye balling the moon at night can really give me a sense of purpose and awareness of what's going on and i feel like i'm on the right track to achieve what i want to achieve in life for benefit of the world around me.

Well it doesn't have to be intense. Its just you feel the energy of the moon. To many people expect some epic intense experience its just like feeling intentions pretty much not to intense lol.

the pineal gland is a real thing, the 3rd eye is more of the metaphysical side of it

I know.. which is why I asked.. I was sort of fishing for that answer... Sneaky me

The pineal gland is as you say a gland. It secretes stuff. Hormones... Melatonin, to be precise. It regulates, amongst others the entrainment of the suprachiasmic nucleus's circadian rhythm, it regulates seasonal functions and behaviors and it regulates sexual development and growth of the sex organs. So how then, is it supposed to be in any way connected to this notion of 'true seeing'?

Again, I can see how 'the third eye' could be a metaphor or symbolism for a certain psychological state (plus, let's be honest... 'open your third eye'... Sounds pretty cool too. Could come straight from a matrix-esque movie), but I'm absolutely positively in the dark as to how meditating or concentrating on an arbitrary point in your body which actual physical function doesn't have anything remotely to do with vision or interpreting the data coming in apart from the 'oh.. there's light! better reset the biological clock!' is somehow supposed to be able to get you into touch with true reality...

I'm sure there are far more productive - and interesting - ways to get you started on whatever you define the notion of 'true seeing' or even 'enlightenment' as, instead of concentrating on your pineal gland..

      IMHO and FWIW,

      Tim

My take on third eye mediation is that when you do have a break-trough it's exactly the same as WILDing and ur imagination is at work and so when you opened ur third eye u are now in the astral plane .
I have probably a different view on imagination than most people. But this is what i think might be the whole thing about third eye meditation. But i don't have any first-hand experience to validate this.

      Holy shit

I know this doesn't have anything to do with all this, but whatever..

So I'm rereading Kolb and Whishaw, and I just noticed something I overread previous times. Again, the pineal gland is a biological clock which can be reset by light. Apparently the reason why the pineal gland, even today, is called the third eye is because in some species of birds, it doesn't 'see' light via the eyes. Instead, it is excited by light that enters the brain THROUGH THE SKULL. It responds directly to light. How cool is that? ;p

Yah.. I can't do very much with that seeing that I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about...

I have a question, how could opening the third eye be a positive with lucid dreaming?

when your third eye is open? could it also aid in attaining lucidity from awareness?

      guys...there are 6 things I think you're forgetting about

Chakra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

....it's like having a discussion about Tolkien's works and only talking about The Hobbit.

You want all 7 to be in balance. Like everything else in life, balance is the key.

In the end it's just methaphors for different elements of one's psychology anyway.

Yes because you are more aware of the feeling of everything. In dreams everything feels a lot different from waking life. The energy feels different. Most the time it is a much more pleasant feeling you get from your environment than in waking life. It feels good. Unless you go to hell like me.

I have taken that test already. My heart was the most "developed" one

and yes, I know about the others, look at the title of the thread, it is directed towards the 6th chakra. If I wanted more information on the others, i would make a thread about that you see

On the topic of this one, has anyone seen Joseph Campbell's "Transformations of Myth Through Time" DVD series? He touches upon exactly this in his lectures on Kundalini Yoga and the Tibetan Book of the Dead. VERY interesting. I highly recommend it.
