      Tell me about the spelling of the word weird/wierd

      I think the correct spelling is weird, and if so, is it just an exception to the rule 'i before e, except after c' and nothing more?

      It's wierd. There are no exceptions (to my knowledge) of the i before e rule.

      It's weird.

      Freight, science, deity, neighbour (or neighbor if you're American), vacancies, beige, feint, veil, vein....

      I'm sure there's more... but those are the exceptions I can think of off the top of my head.

      There are exceptions to every rule -- including this one.

      "Weigh" is not really an exception, since it has the long "A" sound (and is specifically mentioned in the rule). The rule says:

      "I before E except after C, and when sounding like A as in neighbor and weigh"

      There are so many exceptions to the I before E rule, so many that it shouldn't even be a rule and teachers are fucking dumb asses for teaching it!!!

      I got A*'s on most of my my English language coursework (even if my exam results ruined that :p) and I'm 100% sure it's weird.
