      Tell me about the spelling of the word weird/wierd

      I think the correct spelling is weird, and if so, is it just an exception to the rule 'i before e, except after c' and nothing more?

      It's wierd. There are no exceptions (to my knowledge) of the i before e rule.

      I was convinced it was wierd, but on www.dictionary.com, it says weird

      I've seen it bounced back and forth so many times, it confuses meeee

      It's weird, definitely. There are so many exceptuions to that rule it's pretty much inane.

      It's weird.

      Freight, science, deity, neighbour (or neighbor if you're American), vacancies, beige, feint, veil, vein....

      I'm sure there's more... but those are the exceptions I can think of off the top of my head.
