Tell me about your most controversial view.

The human mind has an inate capability to empathise with others. Despite circumstances which place lump us together in disparate groups, the diferences between us are minimal. There is no such thing as race. We are all searching for meaning, whether we use the words of Jesus or (pained smile) Dawkins.

Oh, and no-one would claim that they'd swerve to avoid runing a cat over if it means hitting a pedestrian instead (I'm just remembering the last argument on absolute morality I took part in here :-)).

Equality of outcomes is impossible. Equality of opportunity though, is surely a noble goal; it's otherwise known as fairness. As the saying goes, lifes not fair. The unwritten rejoinder is that doesn't mean we can't make it fairer. Absolutes corrupt; absolute self-interest would be evil just as absolute equality would be evil.

Any individual that tries to apply a single absolute principle is lying to themself. They have the ability to see the other side and they have supressed it. If their society stresses particular absolutes to a dangerous degree, they may apply opposing absolutes to reduce the danger, but they should not blind themselves to the dangers of their own absolutes.

People are very stupid. Our thoughts are distorted.
Those that think that they are an exception to the rule, are the most stupid.
Those that understand that they are stupid, are right.
Sometimes people come up with ideas that look clever. Most of these ideas are stupid, but the ones that really are clever had been gained not because of our cleverness, but in spite of our stupidity.

I think that environmental/overpopulation are the gravest ones facing the world.. as they will effect the most number of people over time and are the hardest to change.
