Tell me about a new haircut

Okay, I'm thinking about breaking down to my mom's not-so-subtle hints that I should change my hairstyle. Pretty much, I use hairsticks or I go with a pony tail or braid, and that's it. She's been bothering me for years, and I've caved in twice, once for a long-haired perm (2.5 hours), and once for layers.

Anyway, I have long hair down to the middle of my back. I'm willing to listen to any idea, even if it's to cut it short and dye it blue. Keep in mind that I'm one of the most low-maintenance people alive. I'm not down for anything that takes more than 5 minutes... well, more or less.

Here are some ... okay pictures of my long hair. Hard to get a good one without asking someone to take them:

      http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y23...t=S6301599.jpg

EDIT: Oh, and in case you can't tell, I do have a high forehead, but I hate bangs and having hair in my face.

You have very beautiful hair, Ame - but I agree it's time for a change! *rubs hands together in anticipation*

ok, this is what I think you should do. Cut at least 6 inches off, probably more. It would look good at a length below your shoulders, maybe 2-3 inches below. Get some long layers for added body and texture. You could do some face framing layers starting at your chin to help break up the harsh line by your face. If you're wanting something completely different, try having them put in some natural highlights and lowlights, not chunky ones, but thin, natural ones. Just enough to give your hair color dimension, and the highlights will look good with the layers.

The maintenence won't be too bad, but you've got to know that any style is going to require more work than what you've got going now. I don't blow dry my hair everyday, more like once a week if I'm going out somewhere. I usually put my wet hair up in a clip or whatever to go to work so it's out of my face, and my hair can air dry throughout the day, which is better for your hair than blow drying all the time anyway.

For going out, use some volumizing product on your wet hair before you blow dry, to give the roots more lift so your hair is not flat to your head. Start at the roots and hold the blow dryer in the direction the hair grows to have a more smooth look rather than frizzies. I like to blow dry my hair with my head upside down too, gives more volume at the roots, which is important for long, heavy hair. I either use a straightening iron, or a curling iron to style it, depending on what I'm wearing or in the mood for. It doesn't take too long to do, just straighten or curl in sections. I use a texturizing spray and hairspray for hold. You can also throw on a head band if you want to wear it down but have it out of your face too. Or put it half up in a cute clip. You have a lot of options.

Let us know what you decide to do and I want to see updated pics when you get it done!!

      Haha, Burns!

I'm very low maintenance when it comes to my hair as well. I'm getting a tiny bit higher maintenance though every year. I never ever blow dry my hair.. but if you do it like Burns said once a week, it won't do anything bad to it. I have recently started using Garnier Fructis serum in my hair to keep it smooth and shiny.

Anyway! I definitely agree that you should cut it to a length just below your shoulders. I had hair about your length and the split ends were just terrible.. I am sooo glad I got it all cut off. Now my hair is very healthy. Cutting your hair on a regular basis also adds protein to it. Anyway I think this would be the perfect length for your particular body shape!

No you're just such a wealth of hair-knowledge! I tend to know a lot as well but not apply the knowledge to my own hair.. I wonder how that happened. I'm getting better at it though.

oh hehe, I admit I am a hair product junkie. Plus, I just had my hair done 2 days ago, and my stylist and I were discussing all the different products and methods of creating the style you want, so I'm kinda in "hair mode", lol

I was going to say the same thing.
      This is my hair-maitenance method:
      1. Get in shower
      2. Wet hair
      3. Apply head and shoulders
      4. Rinse hair
      5. Dry hair with towel.
And in regards to cutting it... I just say "make it shorter." Woo.

Mine is almost the same, however I use 2 types of head and shoulders depending on whether I am conditioning it or not, and as for cutting, I went for a keep the front and back as it is and cut the rest, just for a change lol - stiull doesnt look much different..

As for styling, takes 10 seconds, on goes wax - mess up - finished

I'm with the guys more or less on the amount of effort put into my hair, unless I braid it. Two braids if i'm feeling creative. It's very, very fine, as you might be able to tell, so the only way I really get it to do what I want is when it's wet.

I may go the salon just to have someone play with my hair for a while... and by play with it, I don't mean styling, I mean just running their hands through it and such.

      Any more ideas? Anyone?

Sounds like just another ploy to get someone to play with your hair!

The shampooing is the very best part about having your hair done, they really massage your head and it feels so niiice....

Ame, if you're not willing to spend any time styling it or anything, then there probably won't be any cut or style that will look any different than what you currently have, except just shorter. My sister does the same thing - she wants a new style, so she goes and gets it cut, then she doesn't do anything with it and it goes back to looking the same as always. Everyone has their priorities, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Ame, I don't have any super amazing ideas or anything, sorry.
I do like the idea of you getting it about shoulder length with some layers. Might I add emphasis on the highlighting idea? It would look amazing.

My hair routine, ince I have super short hair, is:

      Wet hair
      Shampoo
      Let it set
      Rinse
      Conditioner
      Let it set
      Rinse
      Towel dry

Then for styling I either change around the part and clip it up here and there or put gel on my hands and mess up the shortest part while tucking the longer bits behind my ears and letting my bangs go in my face.
      Somewhere weakness is our strength
      I'll die searching for it...
      I believe that there's hope

Ame, why don't you go to a really nice stylist somewhere and ask their opinion?

If you have fine hair, that is another good reason to keep it shorter. The shorter the hair, the more thick and voluminous it can look.

Try going on Google and looking for hairstyles for specific face shapes. That might give you a good starting point. Other than that, I have crap for advice.

      My routine goes like this:

Stand in hot water until it starts to get cold
Wash hair with Mane 'n Tail shampoo
      Rinse
Put Mane 'n Tail conditioner in hair
Turn off water in the hopes it will get some heat back
      Wash body
      Turn on room temperature water
Rinse hair and body together quickly
      Towel dry

Well Ame, your hair is so pretty! I think the best thing to do would be to get layers.
Do you guys think I should do anything with my hair

Xox, that is a LOT of hair. I know you're not going to like it, but I suggest cutting it down by at least half. I think girls look a lot better with short(er) haircuts, but that's a personal thing. Plus, it must be a bitch to shower.

Anyways, one thing I love about haircuts is that I get them for free. I never realized how lucky I am to have a hairdresser as a mom. I can it done anyway I like for nothing. The funny thing is I know way too much about hair.

For instance, the other day I asked a girl I'm friends with if her hair was naturally straight. Yes, 'naturally straight' came out of my mouth.

xox, I'm like in love with your hair, but I would personally also cut it! Really long hair is just not very modern. You have such gorgeous hair, I think it would look even prettier if its shorter. Don't bother getting just 2 inches cut off because it won't look any different.
