      Tell me about veagon diets

Basically I would like to know what kinds of food one should it when given these stipulations...

      No meat.
      No animal products.
      No eggs/milk, butter, etc.

also I would like some info on animal friendly clothes/shoes.

Are you considering being vegan? If so, what are your reasons? Make sure to take vitamin supplements in this case.

Basically, being a vegan can be awesome if you can cook. There are plenty of recipe books out there specifically for vegans. Obviously when you take away all of those choices, you are left with fruits, vegetables, nuts... But surprisingly, those can be prepared in a multitude of delicious ways.

As for clothes.. just say away from real leather and real fur.

Might I enquire as to what prompted you to investigate veganism? Veganity? Veganarianism?

      ...vegan stuff?

Reminds me of Immortal Technique's rant:
i like a lot of vegan cuisine. but the illogicality of expecting everyone to adopt their particular idea of what being healthy is is just preposterous.

i've seen some of you herbivores; and if you want to argue health, y'all need to eat some kind of supplement because some of y'all are so skinny that it's disgusting; looking like the only hip-hop motherfuckers on schindler's list.

I just started thinking about the horrible way we treat animals simply because they are less intelligent than we are. Would it be deemed as acceptable if we treated mentally handicaped people like animals heh?

      Why vegan...ism over simple vegatarian...ism?

I don't eat bacon because a pig is less intelligent than me, if it helps. Just like a lion wouldn't eat a zebra just because it was less intelligent than it.

Oh, and for the record, I do eat the mentally handicapped.

eating them ins't horribly treating them. It is the natural order of things for one species to hunt another.

Because in vegetarian diets you are still allowed butter, milk, eggs...

But that perpetuates the confinement of animals, and treat of them as if they are less important than humans.

If a chicken stops producing eggs...they kill it...if a cow stops producing milk, they kill it (unless they can still use her for breading I think)

I just don't think it is fair that humans should be dominating other species like this when it is no longer necessary. If it were necessary I wouldn't mind...but it isn't...therefore I don't want to do it. I wont try to convince other people to do things my way...but I would really like it if they did.

We simply continue doing it now because in the past we needed too...so we have grown accustom to it.

Breeding animals simply to use and then kill them is not the same as hunting. It is no longer necessary to do such things to animals...if it were necessary I wouldn't think twice, but it is not.

Are you a vegan Mes T? hehe.

Anyways yep I want to be a vegan...I can't believe that I ever wasn't...but I guess you just change when you get older. I haven't eaten anything that involved meat or animal products in 2 days...but i'm not too sure about my clothes...

Why do you think we don't need to eat animals? We are omnivores, you know.

The treatment of animals is becoming way better because more people are speaking out about it. I think if everyone suddenly stopped eating animal products, they would just take all the cows, shoot them, and throw them into a ditch somewhere. Is that really any better?

Just be aware that you must eat properly if you are vegan. Take your multivitamins, consult with a specialist...

And for the love of god, don't get testy around other people who don't share your views. Otherwise, people will stop attempting to understand you.

Edit: Haha no I'm not a vegan. Have you seen that documentary Supersize Me? The dude's girlfriend was a vegan, and she came up with the most awesome dishes.

I own chickens. I don't kill them if they stop producing eggs. Just be selective as to where you get your eggs from. Better still, own your own animals and use their produce.

The confinement issue is interesting, but realistically the chickens in my garden have it better off than chickens in the wild (wherever they may be). They get a stable environment without predators, reasonable amount of free movement (chickens don't need endless acres of land, they wouldn't ever use most of it, they only go so far from their nesting area - in this case a hen-house), reliable source of food.
Animals don't need to be free. As you've said yourself, they aren't sentient, there isn't the desire for endless rolling grasslands. They want a stable, risk-free environment, which we can provide.

So if you have the time and effort, get your own chickens, cows, and use their eggs, milk, provided you give them that safe environment and don't mistreat them.

I'll be honest and say I disagree with vegans, and vegetarians also. I would never try to convert them or prevent them, but I do feel that they are the product of our own sheltered environment. It's a moral luxury humanity hasn't always been able to afford.

Don't intend on pushing my views on others...I will openly explain them if asked...but other than that...there is no need to bring it up really.

I wish I had the time and space hehe. I dunno...it just feels wrong eating something that used to live...and it was born with the specific purpose of being killed and ate by human beings...I mean...I dunno...it just doesn't seem necessary to me. It would be nice if they could provide shelter for cows/chickens and get milk/eggs from them until they die...but there is negative profit in doing that so I would not try to get anyone to do that.

But we used to use horses...now they aren't necessary...we have cars. Just because it was necessary in the past does not mean it is necessary now. I wouldn't be apposed to it at all if it was necessary. But I do realize that a vast amount of people prefer animals to veggies and fruits etc...I have no beef to pick with them, haha I accidentally made a pun

I don't eat a lot of meat as is, and I hate eggs, though I don't eat meat more because it isn't available rather then I find it distasteful. I don't have a lot to add, other then a fun little fact I learned last night; I was watching something about body modification and the guy pointed out that you have to be careful when dealing with vegans because they generally have less iron in their blood and are more apt to bleed longer as a result. I thought that was an interesting 'duh' fact that I never thought about before.

It's true, hence my recommendation of multivitamins. I have low iron as is and need to take them regardless.

So generally check what kind of nutrional stuff you're going to miss and need before going into it, Sandy.

Yeah, I've been thinking about becoming a vegetarian..it's going to be hard...but possible.

Anyway, this advice was good, I certainly will consult a specialist before I do.

      vegans don't exist

Veganism (also strict or pure vegetarianism) is a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose
If you're reading this, you are using animal products
namely tallow, found in solder, used in circuit boards
also used as a lubricant for rolling sheet metal (own a car?)

Okay, but one question - why do you still support the confinement and slaughter of innocent plant life? Are they stupid enough not to matter to you?
