I think you're right... I can't help it!

Um, if no one noticed, the purpose of this forum has been virtually lost since its creation. Artelis's original intention was to have a forum in which people want to share their expertise with someone and have other people share their expertise with them. This forum is NOT about "opinions" in the sense "tell me your favorite color." That should have been made very clear since the beginning. If people actually want this forum to have a purpose and not be a second lounge, then rename it to "Ask an Expert." With a description like "Post questions with a question about something unknown to you with the intention of obtaining knowledge from someone who is experienced or post your own thread inviting others to benefit from your experience." A little long winded, but something that actually is pertinent to the intention of the forum.

The current description is "In this forum, you may make posts inviting members to ask you about something or posts inviting members to tell you about something." Notice that virtually every single thread ever made is to ask or tell someone something. If someone just starts off posting their opinion, they are essentially saying "what do you guys think about this." This forum has begun to funnel in posts as general as "Tell me what you think of this funny picture." There are some very opinion based questions here (read: not subjective, but literally asking people their opinion... that is not what this forum is for). There are, obviously, great threads in terms of their adherence to the purpose of the forum, such as "Tell me about... Circuit Bending, Soundproofing (though deviating from the thread title syntax, which is rather important to distinguish if it is ask or tell), grammar, stage performing, etc. Stuff like "Tell me... your favorite music, who would be in your league, your secrets, etc." are just silly (I am not passing judgement on the threads themselves, but silly in that they do not belong here at all). I'll admit that some threads regarding "opinion" are more nebulous as to whether or not they belong here. Regardless, the ones I just mentioned do not belong here at all.

Sorry about the rant, but I really like this forum and I don't want to see it go. If someone makes me a mod just here I'd be glad to move all of the ones that do not belong into the lounge and help reformat the thread titles to fit the conformed syntax of the forum (which is an important aspect of this forum).

Well at least I'm not the only one who thinks it needs an overhaul...

well it's usually just kind of implied. I guess people just got sick of stating the obvious reason why they posted the thread: that they want you to ask them/tell them about something

Then it's just another Lounge - pretty pointless, really. Wasup's post pretty much outlined how the forum was meant to work when it was created, and even though it never really happened that way from the beginning, it's been getting further and further away from the original purpose.

You're right, burns. I'll put that on my list of things to look into and perhaps make an announcement.

Really. There are so many things wrong with these forums that saying "oh, look at this minor detail that really isn't that important, and much harder to fix" is ridiculous.
