      Tell me about concerts

So two of my favorite bands are going to be playing in Topeka on May 9th. Tickets are only $25.

I'm quite excited about this and the chances of me going to something like this is pretty high.

The bands that will be playing are Skillet, Red, and The Letter Black. They're having a tour called Awake and Alive which I think it's mainly ran by Skillet since that's one of their CDs.

Anyway, tell me what it's like to be at a concert. What were your experiences like?

Skillet, Red and TLB being the Christian-rock bands they are, it's possible they will open with some form of a prayer.
Christian concerts are fine, but cheesy. I would have hoped you knew what you were getting into first.

They are all alt-rock bands, so expect plenty of high energy and shouting. Your hearing will not be at 100% for quite a while after you leave.

You'll be going on the 9th of next month, yes?

According to this, there'll be plenty of room for moving around. Move with what feels good. No one will be wearing any suits.

You won't have long to sit down, as they'll be putting on bands consecutively, with no intermission. Expect to come home exhausted.
They'll be going through the majority, if not all of the songs on their new album. Applaud and yell as you see fit.

Get good seats, close to the front of the stage. Audience interaction happens more than you might think.

A lot of the show depends on the mood/set of the bands. If they're not feeling well, they might not play the whole album, or be as energetic as they might otherwise be.

Concerts are just generally fun to go to. Enjoy yourself.

It really varies for each band. If you're watching a local band at a bar, it's not the greatest. If you're watching them outdoors with around 100-200 people, it's alright.

Red/Skillet, I just saw them a few minutes ago. About 500 people - it's even better.

The best concerts are around 1000 people.

Skillet is pretty dang good live - but nothing compared to BTBAM's album/live ratio. Red is okay..

Personally I wouldn't go. I was highly disappointed tonight. Will not go see Red ever again. Nor Protest the Hero.

Red just wasn't up to par with their album singing.
Protest is.. oh my god.. They get off-time multiple times, the guitarists often hit wrong notes, rody is drunk and saying random things hitting random notes every time i've been.

Went to a Children of Bodom concert not too long ago. Sometime before November, since I wasn't 21 yet. The band that opened for CoB sucked ass...sucked balls...sucked ass-balls. Not because they were bad, but because their sound guys obviously had no idea what they were doing - the bass was way to freakin' loud, the lead guitarist's solos were nearly inaudible, and the singing was so muffled I couldn't tell where one lyric ended and the next one started. At one point we all started chanting "We want Bodom!" Kind of cruel, but...well, they weren't impressing anyone.

But oh, man, when CoB finally came out...it was a thing to remember. They're just one of those bands that always - and I mean always - sounds just as good live as they do on their studio albums. Their sound guys definitely knew how to do their jobs, as every instrument was equalized just beautifully. Alexi Laiho was really awesome in his guitar playing...hell, he was just awesome, and really knew how to get the fans pumped. He even threw beers out into the crowd. Trust the Finnish to throw a great party.

There was also a pretty intense mosh pit, which I was in for all of five minutes before I realized that my stubby little legs couldn't handle it, so I made my way to a safe area so that I wouldn't fall down and get trampled.

Needless to say, I couldn't hear a goddamn thing after I emerged from the venue. Wandering the streets of San Fran at night with your ears ringing is a pretty scary thing.

So in a nutshell: Concerts are generally awesome. Definitely go. I'm planning to go to a Megadeth concert in August...and it's gonna be freakin' awesome.

They are all christian bands. It's possible they'll decide to open the concert with a prayer or something.
What I meant by cheesey, was that there's often a lot of corny/dramatic wordplay on the setting and lyrics. But you listen to these guys already, so you're used to it.
Were you aware they were christian bands?

I'm aware that they are christian bands.

And I don't think Red uses cheesy wordplay at all. Their music has very deep meanings to them.
I mean, it's not like they're saying "Worship God!" or anything like that.

“Death of Me” furthers the first-person schizophrenia as vocalist Michael Barnes cries “You tear me down and then you pick me up” against a backdrop of deafening guitars, sweeping symphonics and nerve-rattling screams.

I guess it depends on the band you're seeing as to how the audience is going to be...

      In my experiences:

      Savage Garden
Fantastic show, probably my favourite concert I've ever seen (also my first). Darren was both comical and serious when it needed it and at the end of it all, the whole stadium felt like it was bursting with love. A very surreal feeling!

      Ozzy Osbourne
Brought earplugs. Lots of people smoking weed. Got a second hand high. Typical rock n roll show. No bats were hurt, but some people needed mind bleach after being mooned by old man ass. Bit of stage theatrics, but it was appropriate.

Backstreet Boys (yes I did go to one of these... yes I still hate myself for it)
Umm... fan girls are fan girls, I guess. Concert was lame. Stage theatricals tried to cover crap performance. No one was standing. I'm still trying to forget I ever saw this.

      Various underground punk artists
Kick ass show! High energy, moshing, alcohol, crappy sound system, awesome music, underground club. It was a sweeeeeet show. I would totally do that again.

Oasis (yes, I'm a fan... still am!)
Great show. Oasis fans are devoted! They are sort of "old school" in that they don't use stage theatrics at all. Some critics called the concert "boring" the next day because they didn't use any. It was just them, their music, playing, awesome. The fans were excited, singing along to every word. I'd relive that night over again if I could (LD goal?)!

I don't know where to start...

I've seen well over six hundred bands. I tried keeping a list for many years, but I stopped keeping it up.

Shows are fun. I like them. It depends on the type of show you're seeing. I've seen a lot of big stadium concerts... not all of them I really enjoyed because they were such large settings...the cure, green day, u2... bigger ones of that sort... if it's a big show it's probably not going to be as fun because... no one really dances as much. I like dancing. Dancing is cool.

Smaller shows are more fun in my opinion. I think all you really need to know is be ready to have a lot of fun, don't sulk in the back feeling uncomfortable. Feel good about letting loose and having a good time.
