Is it typical to get lucid dreams without practicing?

So I have been looking at this website for about a week and a couple nights ago I got my first lucid dream (only lasted a couple of seconds). Oddly enough, the night before I didn't do hardly anything to prepare or practice. It was a DILD and seemed very good but I was surprised that it came on the night that i practiced the least before falling asleep. is this typical?
I wander through the woods listening to the sound of nature. The sky turns red and opens before me. I realize that I must be dreaming... My adventure has just begun.

The thing about LDing is that it'll work differently for different people. Some people are able to naturally lucid dream without any practice, some can do it with very little practice, and some have to practice very hard to make it work. It always varies. So I'd say it's typical~ Your LD count is one, so next time you have a lucid dream, take note of how much practice you had beforehand just to make sure. It always varies between people~ ^^

DILDs are random, not induced, therefore you will have random DILDs.

Perhaps DILD is just the way to go for you. Test it. See if you have the greatest success with the least preparation. I'll be interested to see what happens, because I myself have had trouble with WILD, WBTB, FILD, and the like, but haven't really given much thought to simple DILD.

Once I had an LD hardly knowing about the subject. I wrote it in my diary as ‘taking control of my dreams’.

      Hey,
Actually it's perfectly normal to have a lucid dream without the need of practice..
I myself have been fascinated by dreams ever since I was a young boy...I've had 2LDs when I was about 7-9yrs old...
At that time,I thought that there was no way of controlling dreams, and that me realizing I was dreaming was purely coincidental...
So,yes its normal to have LDs without practicing...my friend had a Lucid Dream after watching Inception and she barely knew about Lucid Dreaming...
      Hope it answers your questions,
      Sam

Yes, it is! Spontaneously, some lucid dreams can just come out of the blue and surprise you! It's always nice when they do.
