      Do not swallow, persist.

Lately I've been using Jeff777's method for the WILD. For me, the urge to swallow is the worst of all urges. Some say swallow, get comfortable, and you'll be fine. Personally this does not work for me. I find the further I resist the urges (whether it be swallowing, scratching itches, or turning over), the more likely it is that I will consciously hit SP and therefore consciously affirm a lucid dream. I let the drool build up in my mouth and eventually spill on my pillow.

Is this a personal preference or a universal truth? Any comments?

Well I haven't tried WILding becasue I'm a chicken lol, but from what I understand you have to trick your body to fall asleep without your brain...thus I believe any small movement would snap you out of it.

I think it's personal preference. Most people say just swallow but don't think too much about it. Every time I try to WILD, I get a massive urge to swallow. And every time I do swallow I can feel whatever progress I made fade away (it's hard to describe that feeling..I guess maybe I'm just more awake?). So the other night I say screw it and tried really hard not to swallow...and it worked! Before I knew it I was in SP and the urge to swallow was completely gone (probably because of all the commotion of SP, lol). It only lasted about 10 seconds or so because I got way too excited. But yeah, I'd say try swallowing and not swalling and see what works best for you.

I know exactly what you mean, as soon as I give in to the urge to swallow I feel like I become more aware of the things I was trying to disassociate with, like my body. In my opinion, its best to try and ignore the temptation but maybe it's different for others.

You are getting too technical with a WILD. A WILD isn't the ability to lay completely still forever, a WILD is the ability to remain conscious as your body switches states.

You know when you're normally falling asleep, and you turn over, swallow, and kind of snuggle in with your pillow? and you find this EXTREMELY relaxing? (I usually drift into sleep after doing a few of these haha).

This is all just helping you relax and calm down. Great, this is exactly what you want to do, relax. You want to be starting to drift into sleep, not worrying about if you should swallow or not.

When you start to drift into sleep like you normally would, and you start to get caught up in the dream imagery, then you're doing it right. This is the state you want to be. If twisting, turning, swallowing helps you achieve this state, all the better. Its the fact that once you start drifting into these dream scenes, that you have to be careful not to dip in too deep and lose consciousness, or the opposite, where you pull yourself out and snap back to reality. This is the sweet spot you need to be experimenting with, not laying still and worrying about swallowing.

WILDs are VERY difficult in this sense, and will require a vast amount of time toying with drifting in and out of sleep. Lately I've been doing it just for fun, and when I start drifting into sleep now, I still remain conscious a little longer, so its almost like I'm watching a movie as I fall asleep.

Awesome, this just reminded me of something I read in a book called Conscious Dreams. I am definitely going to spend some time working on WILDs with your advice.
