idea on how to induce, good or bad?

Hi there I'm new and still trying to get lucid

I did it once but freaked out and woke up because things kept changing around I noticed it was a dream.

i have heard that recalling dreams is important to notice dream signs and do a reality check that is sort of a habitual response

What if I just form a habit to reality check something that sorta has to be in EVERY dream instead of looking for something specific?

Like my left hand? I wrote dreaming? On my left hand above the thumb and every time I notice my left hand I'm trying to make it a habit to reality check and ask: " How'd I get here?"

Think this will work or not? I'm having trouble recording dreams as I am a VERY deep sleeper and I cant have 5 alarms that go off ever few hours my girlfriend would not be happy.

Thanks for the read and any responses I get!

EDIT: also last night i was attempting wild with saying " i am entering a dream" and i heard VERY clearly a friend of mine speak to me, that jolted me awake. think i was real close?
