      Is learning to fly hard?

Everytime I feel like i'm lucid in a dream, trying to fly is the first thing i do. However, it always ends up with me jumping up and down once or twice and then i lose my lucidity somehow. Also, am i suppose to feel unaware of things happening as a beginner?

I think that you may get a little excited, & you end up losing it when you try to fly. Try not to get too excited!

I don't think I can fly that good either, I can't beleive they don't have a toturial on flying, I would use floating not jumping, just imagen your self floating off the ground, and don't get so excited, use spinning if you want to get back lucidity, or use the command "INCREASE LUCIDITY!"

Y'know, sometimes I can fly and sometimes I can't. It depends on the situation with me I guess for some reason... I can understand why it's hard for some people, but if I can't fly in a particular dream, I don't really dwell on it. There are plenty of other interesting things to do. I've actually climbed up a brick building and jumped off when I found out I couldn't fly. I guess my advice is not to dwell on it, or you could lose lucidity. Look for something else to do, and try flying later in the dream or next time.

I have been able to fly a few times in my lucid dreams and I also remember a lot of regular dreams that I was able to fly. I think the key is you have to have no doubts. Believe that you can fly and just take off. Just believe that it is the natural thing to do. Try it out, it might work, but know everyone is different. Good luck!

Wow I have just the opposite problem. I fly in my dreams a lot. Ever since I was in the 3rd grade and I'm 55 now. My problem has been getting lucid. I’m sure its a matter of what you believe, but if you are lucid and able to think, then I would think the easiest way to start would be to just realize this is a dream and you are lighter then air. And you should be able to float. You wile soon learn how to propel yourself in a wile. First realize that just being lighter then air will get you up. Then you should be able to run and float at about a 45 degree angle .You may even imagine rocket bursts shouting out from under your feet. Let me know if you have any success with floating.

My problem is i never really remember to ask myself to fly. It never occurs to me when i am in a LD....i try to keep reminding myself before i go 2 bed 2 try & fly if i have an LD.....but my dreams r so fast paced i just do whatever seems natural in the situation. I'v tried getting my dreams to slow, i remember one time i got some advice to will everything and everyone to stop. I did this, but i was partially unsuccessful, i remember being in a store & only half of the shoppers stopped. anyways....that was way off subject. But yeah, i actually think nothing individual of the LD proccess can be described as "hard" or "easy" it all depends on the person trying to make it happen.

Flying has always been kinda tricky for me. Sometimes I can get the hang of it right away, sometimes I just end up falling back down and smacking the ground. Lol. I've found that the one biggest downfall is doubt. You can be floating up and doing just fine, but the second you start worrying about 'what if I start losing altitude? am I going to be able to fly again? How should i get good at manuevering? and things like that, you will start going down. One easy way I've learned about taking off, which was always hard (Its easy once you're up in the air) is to look up, and envision exactly where in the air you want to be, close to the ground, or way up in the clouds, and just instantly Get there as fast as you can. You can jump real fast, or teleport, but starting off with some altitude is usually easier for me than taking off.
On the opposite hand, I've had problems with losing dream gravity when I needed to use it. I like to dance alot in waking life, and like to practice while dreaming. And sometimes, I'll feel so light on my feet while dancing, my feet will start coming up off of the floor and I have to concentrate to keep them weighted down.

I think I might try exploring next time. The idea of flying gets me too excited and when I fail to fly my lucidity goes away for some reason.

      Hi guys,
This is my first post, I hope it can help someone. I have just recently spent a good 10+ lucid dreams perfecting my flying ability. In the beginning, I was "floaty," I could drift around, but it was as if I was underwater, I could get going one direction, but then it'd be hard to stop. In any case, each subsequent dream has given rise to a sharper level of precision. I always have a goal--well, almost always--and I find it MUCH easier to fly TO somewhere, than just to fly around. I've found that long distances are easier to cover with "rocket power," taking a few steps and launching yourself into the sky, whereas close distances I'll usually just raise my arms and float off the ground. It also helps not to think of it as floating, I think. Have you seen "Howl's Moving Castle?" When Howl casts a spell, his hair and clothes seem to blow in an unseen wind, and I've found that this visualization of power around myself really gives me more control in my dreams.

Another thing to try, if you can't get off the ground at all, is something my friend was told in a lucid dream by some sort of external consciousness:
Take a cottonball and hold it out in your hand. Keep imagining it feeling lighter and lighter until it lifts into the air. Then, imagine yourself with this same light feeling. Make yourself lighter than the cottonball. Seems like it should work, my friend learned to fly this way.

Good luck! I really believe flying is a practiced trait, at least, it has been for me.

Welcome to our friendly little forum sand_worm.

As for flying, sometimes it does take a high level of LDing. In most cases, it happens anyways. Just keep on trying, & you will fly someday, like I did last night!

There's a lot of good flying tips there. I really should get around to making it formal and have one big list that can be put in Tutorials. Feel free to add to it if you don't see a technique you've used.

Guys remember, NOTHING IS HARD IN A LUCID DREAM... It's just barriers created by your mind telling you you can'd do it.

Imagine this: Think about flying, right now. Fly through the air. Was that hard? No. Just about as hard as it is to fly in an LD.
