      First Attempt at Lucid Dreaming

Last night was my first attempt at lucid dreaming, and I failed miserably. I have been researching lucid dreaming and have been recording my dreams and do generally spent a fair amount of time thinkin about them, as I do generally love dreaming.

So when I went to bed at around 0:20, I laid on my back and closed my eyes and started thinking about what not to do and that I was going to lucid dream. In less than a minute I felt "the buzz" in my head and it quickly consumed me in about 10 seconds.
This was really awesome for me, as I have never experienced this before, I then spent a while in the buzzing mode where my body was going numb, and it felt like I was dizzy. Sometimes I accidentally moved my leg slightly as I was uncomfortable, but very rarely and this didn't stop the buzzing. About 10 minutes into the buzzing mode I accidentally opened my eyes as I noticed my left eye was slighty opened. Then I immediatly closed them again and sat there buzzing for a long time, the only moving I did was swallowing every now and then.

So, I sit there thinking and waiting for what seemed a long time. I was thinking that might have been in sleeping paralysis but thought that I just had to wait for the REM stage. After a while I was getting quit hot and got kind of tired of waiting, so I opened my eyes and moved (my alarm clock said it was 1:20, which is about an hour later), my entire body kind of reacted slowly, I took my t-shirt off and I positioned myself on my side (as that is how I normally sleep) and went to bed, only feeling the buzz very briefly for a few seconds when I just got out of the subconscious state.

So, I did not "lucid dream". I went to bed because I had to get up at 7:00 and I wanted to get a good nights sleep, I do not have a great amount of patience either. Is there anything I particularly did wrong or anything I should do?

      Best Regards, Lemony.

You moved. You swallowed. You opened your eyes.

Everything you weren't supposed to do. Just work on those things.

As a reply to ElectaGuitar I tried it against last night just to see if I could not swallow, and I couldn't, that's like telling me not to breathe. And yeah it is gameoverlord, I resisted the urge to move, eventually I just did accidentally, are there any other "easier" methods you'd recommend?

Right, I'd written a longer one, but for some reason it failed to post, and I can't be bothered writing it out again. So in short:

Don't worry about swallowing, often if it drives you crazy it will be worse than giving in. You shouldn't concentrate too much on what will happen, but just try and fall asleep, whilst keeping your mind set on Lucid dreaming. Not so much that you keep yourself awake. You should just try and fall asleep, but have your last thoughts about what you want to do in a dream. And I would suggest getting more sleep, as this will increase the chances of having a lucid dream. Also, if you can afford to, try and wake up early in the morning, and then fall asleep for another 2/3 hours, but trying to WILD whilst falling back asleep. This often has tremendous results for a lot of people.

      I hope this has helped.

There are some good free hypnosis downloads out on the net you might want to try. One of the keys is staying anchored in the waking world while entering REM. Inducing LD's does not work everytime, in fact you will probably fail more times then you succeed. RC in your waking hours many times before you go to sleep... and good luck!
